Release Management is a relatively new role in most organization.
The rise of Release Management has been driven by other major trends in application development over the last decade: distributed systems using Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), distributed development with outsourced and/or offshore teams, and the faster pace of releases with Agile Software Development.
These trends have conspired to increase both the complexity of releases and the cost of failure for releases — while at the same time increasing the frequency of releases.
No wonder then that Release Management is in the spotlight, and under pressure to create an efficient and controlled release process.
ITIL, the Information Technology Infrastructure Library, provides a set of guidelines for Release Management; however, putting the generic abstractions of ITIL together into a functional system can be a daunting task.
Release Managers looking to improve the effectiveness of their release process by putting ITIL concepts into practice should join this session with Jeffrey Fredrick (LinkedIn profile) which will cover:
- An overview of ITIL concepts relating to Release Management.
- Practical experiences from multiple Release Management organizations.
- How effective Release Management can add value throughout the SDLC.
- How automation can improve compliance and reliability while improving efficiency.
