Thank you so much to pduOTD for making this article available to all of you as a category C activity. So many project mangers are great at managing tasks, plans and budgets but lack an effective strategy when it comes to managing people and stakeholders. Being able to build relationships, and using your people skills to manage your stakeholders effectively, is one of the keys to becoming a highly valued and truly successful project manager and leader.
The way to build relationships is to spend time with your stakeholders, understanding their position, their role and their motives. Actively engage, listen to their ideas and concerns and address them before they turn into issues. Fully understand what each of your stakeholders is looking for and what will make each of them say that the project was a success.
