We have been “professionalizing” and “standardizing” and “automating” our projects and programs for over a decade. Yet, the success rates of IT projects haven’t radically improved.
We don’t have the project leaders with the skills we need. Our improvement initiatives still meet high organizational resistance.
PMOs implode at rates above 30% annually. Add to this mix the current and future business environment – highly uncertain and constantly changing.
This session will focus on the effects of all these factors on how the management of project-based work will need to change (and is changing) to address all of these factors.
Don’t be surprised if some of what you believe is “best practice” or “common wisdom” will need to fall by the wayside to ensure your future success in this challenging environment.

The Business Analyst (BA) role has become essential in today’s workplace as a vital component of a successful project.
This presentation gives an overview of Business Process Management (BPM) from a business analysis and project management perspective.
- It explains why and how business analysts (BAs) and project managers (PMs) can exploit a process mindset to help their organizations “see and think†differently.
- It walks through the definition and components of a BPM program, highlighting the role of business analysis and project management in every step.
- It defines a BPM program consisting of the discipline, daily practices, and tools to establish and maintain a persistent, intensive focus to help organizations improve their processes, save money, and increase control.
Software tools for BPM such as automated workflow, simulation, and process monitoring are not enough.
Tools can help to automate, track, and monitor processes, but humans must still apply the hard work of analyzing and managing them. When implemented correctly, BPM is the missing or magic ingredient to make all organizations more competitive and financially healthy in tough economic times.
BPM relies on close integration with project management and business analysis to be most effective. How BAs and PMs can help increase that integration is also an important part of this presentation.
Presenter: – Sara Braziller, ,CIRM, CPIM is a consultant with over 27 years of successfully leading/managing projects, establishing high performing organizations, and problem solving. Sara helps companies improve utilization of people and assets (i.e., business processes and systems). Sara is also a faculty member for Watermark Learning and at several local Universities where she has designed and teaches graduate courses in Lean, Six Sigma and Enterprise Information Systems. Her practical approach and fun style of learning has resulted in a large network of satisfied attendees and knowledgeable followers.
