As users of Microsoft Project, we all want to write high quality schedules. In a high quality schedule, the critical path should be believable.

But how do you know whether your critical path can be trusted?

It turns out that there are many simple checks that can be made to uncover “gremlins” hiding in your schedule that can distort the critical path.

In this engaging presentation, you will learn about several of the gremlins that can interfere with the correct calculation of the critical path. Some of the issues run counter to scheduling best practices (e.g. missing predecessors), and some of the issues run counter to Microsoft Project best practices (e.g. Summary Tasks with Predecessors).

After attending this presentation, you will never look at your Microsoft Project Schedule the same way again!

Presenter: Brian Leach (LinkedIn profile), Schedule Checker and the founder and CEO of Steelray Software. Brian has managed projects for over 20 years and was a key part of the team that developed the world’s first two-way wireless text messaging device, which was later added to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Brian is a PMP and has spoken on project management topics at several PMI and NASA conferences as well as MPUG meetings.

Live Webinar – June 28th 2012, 12:00-1:00 PM EDT
Offered by ASPE (REP 2161) 1 Category A PDU – Free PDU
This is a 1 hour seminar and attendees will be awarded 1 PDU for participating

It’s a deceivingly simple question without a simple answer, “What is SharePoint?” If you’ve asked this before, you’ve probably had a different answer every time.

SharePoint has become quite a buzzword in many organizations today. But the problem is using the phrase Microsoft SharePoint is like using the phrase “Microsoft Office.” It refers to several aspects of web-based collaborative solutions. Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of confusion around SharePoint’s actual core functions, and Microsoft’s product websites aren’t really that clear in their own explanation.

In this one-hour web seminar we’ll not only define clearly what SharePoint is, we’ll explain the core SharePoint components and functions, how to get started and more. By the end of this seminar you will have a clear understanding of what SharePoint is and what if can do for you and your organization.

Topics will include:

  • Version and market share
  • Customization Options
  • License Options
  • Six Components of SharePoint MS View
  • What enterprises are really doing with it
  • Top challenges in getting started

Although it is not particular to application security, developers often feel that security is in the business of saying no. Or, in other words, making development and acquisition projects late and over budget.

It should be no surprise that selling security to architects and developers is therefore on average a challenging task. But it does not have to be this way.

Hidden inside the many application security requirements and activities are things that could make development easier and faster. Although adding additional security effort does take time, doing it the right way spends much of this effort on creating foundations instead of project-by-project fixes.

Knowing how to articulate these potential advantages, and combining the domain-specific knowledge of the security, architecture, and development teams to design and maintain these foundational elements makes security much easier in the long run. And the business will be grateful for it.

Discussion Topics:

  • How can security requirements be transformed to development advantages?
  • How can planning for security enable a more agile application architecture?
  • How can these activities be aligned with, or folded into existing tools and processes?
