What do you do when your sponsor IS the problem???

Part of the challenge that the Project Manager/Business Analyst faces is the reality of having to serve so many different stakeholders and sometimes being pulled in very different directions.

We’re often taught that our “sponsor” is the person who is the champion of the effort. Indeed, they are often the one we’re to seek out for support and issue resolution throughout the project.

This session provides specific techniques that the project leader can use to “manage up” and build a strong relationship with your sponsor.

This two hour workshop explores a few different varieties of the “difficult sponsor” and provides specific strategies to help manage these sponsors.

Three types of difficult sponsors.

  • Sponsor Type 1 – I hope you don’t mind me intimidating everyone with my overbearing nature at your team meetings…I’m just trying to help you speed things along .
  • Sponsor Type 2 – I’m not exactly clear on what I’m looking for, but I’ll be sure to hold you responsible when I don’t get it…
  • Sponsor Type 3 – Would you please boil the ocean? (and Create World Peace while you’re at it )

The webinar will cover topics including risk analysis, expectation setting, triple constraint prioritization, success criteria documentation, and managing difficult conversations among others.

Course Learning Objectives Include:

  • Define the role of the sponsor
  • Explore consequences of weak project sponsorship
  • Strategies for managing the domineering sponsor

With the Course You Will Receive:

  • Risk Analysis Template
  • White Paper – The Project Manager’s Guide to Dealing with the Difficult Sponsor
  • Access to the Live and Recorded Version of Webinar
  • Personalized Certificate of Attendance
  • Copy of Presentation Slides

Live Webinar – January 10th, 2012 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm EST
Presented by: Eclipse Project Portfolio Management
Duration: 1 hour 1 PDUs Credits: Category C 1 PDU- Free PDU

Project Portfolio Management (PPM) initiatives are expected to provide significant benefit to multiple roles within an organization.

Intuitively, most staff can understand the potential value in the organization, process and technology changes involved with a PPM initiative. However, the lack of change management practices through a PPM initiative’s implementation is one of the most common reasons for their failure. Symptoms of this issue can include poor executive commitment, resistance or political pressure from functional management and compliance issues with project teams.

Eclipse will review common misconceptions about PPM initiative implementations, provide some guiding principles for successful change and detail the steps and key communication messages necessary to gain buy-in from executive and functional management as well as from project teams.

This webinar will also provide tips that can be incorporated into the initiation and planning of your PPM initiative to increase your odds of success.
