The goal of Agile teams is to continuously deliver high-value outcomes—as quickly as possible.

To achieve this, these teams focus on skills, not titles or traditional role delineations.

  • So what does that mean for the experienced project manager, product manager, or business analyst?
  • Where do their planning and analysis skills fit into Agile’s fierce focus on frequent delivery?

Drawing on her insights from coaching Agile teams, Mary addresses these questions and outlines the dynamic relationships between agile work, disciplines, and skills. Join us to discover how re-positioning from role-based to skill-based work enables you to collaboratively contribute to any agile effort.

Presenter : Mary Gorman CBAP, CSM (LinkedIn profile), is VP of quality and delivery at EBG Consulting. Mary works with global clients, speaks at industry conferences, and writes on requirements topics for the business analysis community. Mary also  co-authored a book with Ellen Gottesdiener, (LinkedIn profile  @ellengott) on practical agile planning and analysis practices,Discover to Deliver: Agile Product Planning & Analysis.  In addition to serving on the IIBA® Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® Committee for four years, Mary helped create the first CBAP® certification exam.

Online Webinar – Recorded December 18th 2013
Offered by ASPE (REP 2161) 1 Category A PDU – Free PDU
CourseID: WS121813

It has been well over a decade since Agile practices were introduced and phenomenal results have been realized by organizations putting this approach into use.

Many teams find that although challenging, the initial implementation of an Agile approach can be done relatively quickly and the associated benefits are realized just as soon.

It is after the initial transition that teams begin to wonder about things not so simple, such as how to scale Agile, how to effectively run an Agile project in a large organization with distributed teams, and how to ensure continuous improvement in the approach long after the initial implementation.

This hour long web seminar explores the advanced Agile topics that help teams move past the very common Agile plateau that teams often experience.

Searching for A Job
Is a Big, Complex, & Scary prospect!

You don’t have control over the end date, so it’s an emergent project.

How do you regain control?

  • By using personal kanban inside one week timeboxes and reflecting on your progress.

Personal kanban can help you manage your work, keep your WIP small, and visualize what to do. But personal kanban is not enough, even with purposeful reflection.

A job seeker needs the growth mindset—the agile mindset—to persist in building a target list and networking list.

Too many people don’t realize how to network. They think that “spray-and-pray” works for résumés, online, and in-person networking.

That just wastes time.

You also need an agile approach, try a little something and getting some feedback to your networking.

Building a targeted list requires knowing your purpose, knowing who your target list might be, articulating the value of your previous accomplishments, how to ask for feedback, purposeful reflection and the growth mindset.

In this talk, Johanna will provide you with:

  1. The basics of personal kanban,
  2. An introduction to background networking and how that differs from targeted networking.

Bring your notebook and a pen. You’ll learn enough to use this session to manage your job search now and in the future.

Portfolio Kanban

Online Webinar – Recorded October 10th 2013
Offered by ASPE (REP 2161) 1 Category A PDU – Free PDU
CourseID: WS101013

Agile is all about the flow of work through a system and how that work is efficiently and effectively ‘managed’.

Most organizations are adept at managing the flow of work at the Team or Project level but many struggle with too much Work In Progress (WIP) at the Program/Portfolio level.

Often times there are too many projects in flight and finite resources are spread across multiple work streams. What first appears as an efficient form of resource utilization is in reality the equivalent of an organization running in place.

Many Things Get Started But Few Get Done

Managing your Portfolio using a Kanban approach is a more effective way to manage the flow of work by making the amount of work visible, limiting WIP to maximize the number of things completed and using a pull system to only pull new work into the Portfolio when there is actual capacity to effectively complete it.

Online Webinar – Recorded November 21st 2013
Offered by ASPE (REP 2161) 1 Category A PDU – Free PDU
CourseId: WS112113A

Note: Although ASPE is an REP presentations may have to be recorded as a Cat C PDU Event – Contact Traci Lester Marketing Specialist at ASPE for more information

Agile provides the opportunity to release a product earlier than in a waterfall approach, but understanding when to release a product for maximum efficiency takes a great understanding of how to plan and execute a product release strategy.

Teams and organizations must balance the costs of releasing a product to production with the value a set of features will create in the marketplace of users.

This web seminar provides a great understanding of how releases work within an Agile strategy and how to effectively prepare for this very important aspect of the overall lifecycle.

Recorded Webinar Recorded – Jan 8th 2014
Offered by iZenBridge (REP 3950) 1 Category B PDU – Free PDU

Note: Although iZenBridge is an REP presentations should be recorded as a Cat B PDU Event

Many projects managers who manage projects where things changes frequently struggle to prepare and maintain critical path based detailed project schedule.

Critical path based planning needs very frequent re-planning and in absence of that schedule remain just a document, schedule rarely reflect the real activities which are getting executed.

The push schedule where we expect project manager to allocate activities / tasks to individual require good amount of communication and re-planning and delay in communication or re-planning generates delays in execution, since team waits for instructions.

Pull based planning gives a good alternative to manage tasks/ activities. In this session we will look at what is this Pull based scheduling is all about and how it can be implemented.

Key Questions Answered:

  • Why do we need Pull based planning?
  • How can we put Pull based planning in action?
  • What are the Lean Software development Principles
  • What is Kanban and how it gets implemented?
  • Saket Bansal will also look some of the fundamental principles of Lean Software Development and Kanban.
