Online Webinar – Recorded May 16, 2013
Offered by ASPE (REP 2161) 1 Category A PDU – Free PDU
CourseID: WS07211

When a software development professional first hears about Agile, they are often initially incredulous that this type of approach can work due to a misperception that Agile simply means “no planning.”

This belief could not be further from the truth.

Agile teams tend to plan more throughout the course of a project than a traditional approach, albeit in a different fashion than they may be accustomed to. Rather than planning once at the beginning of a project, Agile teams practice continuous planning throughout the project.

This web seminar will explore the five Levels of Agile planning, and how they help teams ensure that teams are able to benefit from what they learn over the course of their development and delivery efforts.

Presenter:  Bill Gaiennie (LinkedIn profile) has more than 16 years of working in the software development field as a developer, project manager, ScrumMaster, and a training coach. Bill is an accomplished, experienced Agile trainer, with 5 years of Agile experience effectively leading product and project teams in a wide array of Agile management and methodology based initiatives. He is currently an accredited member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and is active in the Agile Alliance and Scrum Alliance communities.

Recorded Presentation – June 6th 2012
Presented at the Norwegian Developers Conference
Duration 1 hour 1 PDU or 1 CDU 1 Category A Free
Presented by: Mountain Goat Software (REP # 3102 EUS-Intro)

The technique of expressing requirements as user stories is one of the most broadly applicable techniques introduced by the agile processes. User stories are an effective approach on all time-constrained projects, and are a great way to begin introducing a bit of agility to your projects.

In this session, Mike describes how to identify and write good user stories.

This presentation describes:

  • The six attributes that good stories should exhibit
  • Presents 13 guidelines for writing better stories And …
  • Explores how user “role modeling” can help when gathering a project’s initial stories.

Because requirements touch all job functions on a development project, this tutorial will be equally suited for analysts, customers, testers, programmers, managers or anyone involved in a software development project.

By the end of this tutorial, you will leave knowing the six attributes of a good story, learn a good format for writing most user stories, learn practical techniques for gathering user stories, know how much work to do up-front and how much to do just-in-time.

Presenter:  Mike Cohn (LinkedIn profile) is the founder of Mountain Goat Software, where he teaches and coaches on Scrum and agile development. He is the author of Succeeding with Agile: Software Development Using Scrum, also Agile Estimating and Planning, and User Stories Applied: For Agile Software Development  and contributor to numerous other books and publications. With more than 25 years of experience, Mike is a highly sought after keynote speaker, and is a founding member of the Scrum Alliance and the Agile Alliance.

Online Webinar – Recorded June 11th 2013
Offered by ASPE (REP 2161) 1 Category A PDU – Free PDU
CourseID: WS041712

Agile at its foundation is a way of conducting work governed by a set of principles. Agile has been “productized” (different Agile Flavors) for specific work needs and special practices have been established to get the work done. With that said, most organizations feel they just need to teach their team the practices and get to work. The reality is that is a major mistake.

As a way of working, Agile is a monumental transformation. It requires the worker to engage in their work with a completely different mindset. It requires organizations to monitor and measure itself differently. Finally it requires managers to practice a completely new set of skills when it comes to “managing” their teams (the reality is you don’t manage your team any longer in Agile).

This seminar discusses the transformational challenge Agile presents to an organization. It will go over organizational change strategies necessary to make the jump, as well as cover different start up models instead of complete enterprise adoption. The goal of this presentation is to properly prepare an organization for the “human” challenges associated with the decision to move to Agile methods.

Presenter: David Mantica (LinkedIn profile) – David Mantica has more than 16 years of experience in business to business continuing education in executive, product management, marketing, and operations capacities. He has product managed the initiation, development and delivery of more than 300 instructor-led and live, online training courses, in software development life cycle, IT, telecommunications, finance, healthcare IT, and marketing industries.

Online Webinar – Recorded Sept 26th 2013
Offered by ASPE (REP 2161) 1 Category A PDU – Free PDU
CourseID: WS092613

Many of today’s project managers are finding themselves leading and managing Agile development teams, only to find that many of the tools and techniques applied when utilizing a traditional project management approach no longer work as effectively or at all.

In order to do more than survive in this iterative development environment, today’s PM must employ additional project management tools and techniques to effectively lead their teams and deliver their projects.

Learning how to transition from a traditional project manager to an effective Agile Project Manager is going to be an essential step for today’s software development leaders to remain relevant.

This hour long web seminar will explore how today’s PM can easily and successfully make the transition to an effective Agile PM.
