Software projects are often strategic business transformation initiatives within the organization.
Given the high stakes involved, one of the approaches for successful project delivery is formulating an objective stakeholder driven measurement model for improved decision making.
The Goal-Question-Metric (GQM) framework is an objective and stakeholder driven measurement model with eight measures for hybrid COTS (Commercial off-the-shelf) and bespoke types of software projects.
The eight measures are:
- Function Points (FPs),
- Lines of Code (LOC),
- McCabe’s Cyclomatic Complexity (VG),
- Cost Performance Index (CPI),
- Schedule Performance Index (SPI),
- Sigma level (Cpk),
- Defect Density (DD) and
- Defect Removal Efficiency (DRE)
… Pertaining to the five project attributes namely:
- Size,
- Complexity,
- Schedule,
- Cost and …
- Quality
