PMI (Project Management Institute) continues to meet the needs of Project and SDLC (Software / System Development Life Cycle) professionals by offering another specialty certification.

  1. Do you have an unusually high percentage of non-functional requirements in your projects?
  2. Are you using function points in your estimation model and have difficulty estimating the non-functional work?
  3. Have you been reluctant to use function points because they only cover functional requirements and not the non-functional ones?

SNAP may be a software sizing solution for you.

The Software Non-Functional Assessment Process (SNAP) is an IFPUG-developed, innovative approach to sizing non-functional requirements.

As a complement to Function Point Analysis sizing, SNAP sizing can become an integral part of your estimation model for projects that have both functional and non-functional requirements.

This webinar, presented by SNAP trained specialists, will provide an overview of what SNAP is and what it can do for your organization.

LESSONS LEARNED:

  1. Understand the criticality of uncertain resource availability on project outcomes.

Each month Chris Knotts picks a valuable, substantive business book we think will benefit you as a professional.

Some are new; some are classics. Either way, we do the reading, and then use one of our free web seminars to deliver a one-hour “book report.”

This month’s book pick is The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable by Nassim Nicholas Taleb (Wikipedia article).

Nassim has written a book that explains how the business world works now more than ever. It’s a world of fast-paced, unpredictable events that are hard to keep up with and even harder to predict.

If you are a professional who struggles to cope with change or find ways to deliver value quickly enough to respond to the market, this is a must-read.

Taleb put his finger on the dynamics of a world where luck, evolution, unpredictability, and response time all converge to make it seemingly impossible to navigate a market landscape that just moves too fast.

However, he also explains how navigation is possible for those who understand the underlying drivers, and how it’s actually possible to stay nimble and alert, ready to respond when events occur that are impossible to predict – events Taleb calls “Black Swans.”
