So Who Has An Opinion?

  1. The Agile evangelists would say it is a skill the entire team needs.
  2. The IIBA would say it is a role that needs to grow in order for companies to gain competitive advantage with their technology deployments and internal automation.
  3. PMI® has also spoken on this topic. Their position, based on the certification they developed (PMI-PBA) is it’s a skill successful project managers add to their tool kit of skills and techniques.

What can be factually attested to is the following; as SDLC practitioner positions like developers, testers and architects were being outsource, larger enterprise organizations depended on building software and systems for competitive advantage have been hiring Business Analysts.

Just look at Indeed or Dice or Monster and see which tech jobs are HOT and Business Analyst will be in the top 5.

This presentation will break out the current trends in the software development industry and where BA is seen as skill and were it is being built out as a role.

From there David will take a look at the pros and cons of each view and where things may end up in the end. Ultimately giving you critical information as you plan your career growth goals for 2015 and beyond.

Although Agile has proven to provide incredible benefits in software development and delivery, it is not foolproof, nor a “Silver Bullet” when adapted quickly and adopted without consideration of potential issues.

Plenty of factors need to be considered
Before attempting this highly disciplined approach.

With anything new there are going to be difficulties. What starts out a small test with a pilot team leads to a huge bandwagon affect.

This is great but some band-wagoners get nervous when the problems start and ultimately become the naysayers and finger pointers that can kill Agile before it even gets a chance to provide benefit.

Top Pitfalls That Lead To Agile Troubles Include:

  • Self-organized team function
  • Poor Product Owner performance
  • Lack of adequate training and coaching
  • No change management plan
  • Lack of executive support
  • Inconsistent business unit support

Learn from the mistakes other organizations have made and discover which pitfalls to avoid to ensure that your first attempt at applying an Agile approach will be met with a successful outcome and keep the band-wagon’s wheels here on earth and avoid the bubble burst when expectations are set too high.

Ultimately Agile success requires an organization to do some creative destruction which leads to inefficiency and confusion for a period of time.

Be prepared to weather that storm by preparing your sponsors and management with an understanding of the problems you will face on your road to incorporating Agile methods into your organization.
