Infrastructure UK, in collaboration with the University of Leeds and supported by the Infrastructure Client Group, have developed the Project Initiation Routemap (Routemap).

The routemap aids infrastructure providers in strategic decision-making for specifying and initiating major projects by providing a structured approach to assessing and improving sponsor, client and supply chain capability and integration.

The routemap brings together a set of assessment tools in a systematic process aimed at improving the capability of sponsors and clients to plan, execute and operate major infrastructure.

While initially developed to support UK infrastructure projects, the capabilities and practice have been found to be transferrable to any sector as the routemap targets improving the likelihood that the organisations involved have the right attributes to deliver the required outcomes.

As such, the National Audit Office & the Cabinet Office (UK)
recognize the routemap as good practice.

In her presentation, Nancy will provide an overview of the routemap including: who can benefit from its application and how and when to apply the complexity and capability assessments and aligning for success modules to maximise value through planned enhancement.

Examples from the applications at Anglian Water, the Environment Agency, HS2, Network Rail, Surrey County Council and Transport for London will help to bring the routemap to life.

Presenter : Nancy Madter (LinkedIn profile) MSc (Eng) is the Individual Competency Development Theme Leader for the Engineering Project Academy at the University of Leeds. Her research has been instrumental in the development of the Institution for Civil Engineer’s post-professional review competency framework and the recently launchedclient capability framework, as well as in the development and application of Infrastructure UK’s Project Initiation Routemap. Working with projects such as Crossrail, High Speed 2 and London Underground”s Station Stabilisation Programme Nancy assists organizations to better understand and promote ‘intelligent’ clienting.

Personas are a tool to develop
An understanding of a user’s needs.

A persona represents one of the archetypical users that interacts with the system or product.

There are a number of ways personas can be used as teams develop and deliver value. The well-trodden path between personas and value is through user stories.

However, although personas have become nearly ubiquitous, the concept is not always well understood.

This webinar will develop a simple example to help attendees understand the concept of personas and how to leverage personas to generate user stories.
