All managers get things done through people, the question is how!

Traditional managers expect compliance. Coaching-managers expect engagement, creativity, responsibility, and ownership.

Coaching is not an isolated practice―it’s a management discipline that can boost both employee development and performance. But many managers are of the opinion that they simply do not have the time to coach each and every one of their employees on a regular basis.

However, ask yourself, “What will it cost in time or money if my employees don’t have a clear view of goals, lack critical skills, or are encountering problems that impede progress?”

Join Dan Rockwell as he explains the differences between coaching-managers and traditional managers and offers advice on how to use a coaching approach to energize and engage your staff.

To motivate their employees, effective managers realize that they must form a partnership with them.

This webcast explores the steps to evolving from a boss into a coach, including:

  • Differences between top-down management and coaching management
  • The importance of short interactions vs. big, long meetings
  • Behaviors which are important for coaching-managers
  • How effective feedback is different from “giving instructions”

We encourage you to register even if you are unable to attend live; you’ll receive replay information following the event.

We’ve all heard that setting priorities in our personal lives is key to achieving our goals.

Some of us hire personal coaches to get our lives in order, but when it comes to what we do within the office, all that planning goes out the window.

Organizations today are running at a much faster pace than ever before. We have technology glued to us at all times so that we can quickly respond to things.

But should we really?

This month Core Performance Concepts will talk about the benefits of prioritizing our days both at home and at work.

They understand that you don’t always have control over the priorities that may be set for you in the office, but will discuss some strategies and approaches to gaining clarity of purpose when your supervisor says something is urgent or if you are feeling like you have too many projects on your plate.

At the end of this session, they will ask for attendees to submit a scenario they would like to have discussed in their May 27th panel. They will share experiences and strategies for helping you get your time in control.

Benefits

  • Learn how to prioritize both at home and work
  • Identify key strategies to gain clarity
  • Plan your projects accordingly

Project Managers Deal With Complexity Every Day!

The latest business surveys show that critical thinking now ranks as the most desired leadership attribute for businesses (see the EDA Trends in Executive Development Report).

While critical thinking works well for complicated environments where answers can be found by concertedly applying good processes, additional skills are needed to survive under “Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous” (VUCA) conditions.

For VUCA environments, where causes and effects are unclear and creative solutions often trump tried-and-true processes, leaders and organizations need an expanded set of “cognitive readiness” competencies.

The U.S. Armed Forces originally developed the concept of cognitive readiness.

Since the terrorist attacks of September 11th, service-members have found themselves thrust into VUCA, high-scrutiny, and high-tempo conflicts.

Each situation must be approached with reflection and creativity, the adaptability to notice and react quickly to evolving conditions, and a strategic understanding of the larger system and far-reaching effects of actions taken within it.

Although business leaders (hopefully) don’t face the same threats as military personnel, corporations encounter their own sets of challenges and often operate under commiserate levels of complexity, scrutiny, and time pressure.

What You’ll Learn:

  1. How to distinguish different levels of complexity
  2. How the brain works—not just decision-making but also the critical processes that support it
  3. Differences between the concepts of “cognitive readiness” and “critical thinking”
  4. Seven core competencies leaders need to excel under VUCA conditions

Presenters:

  • Sae Schatz (LinkedIn profile) Ph.D., Senior Consultant, Executive Development Associates
  • Lynn Pollard (LinkedIn profile) Senior Consultant and Master Facilitator, Executive Development Associates
