Live Webinar April 6th, 2016 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm EDT
Duration: 1 Hour 30 Min Credits: 1 PDU Category A – Free PDU
Presented by: Fissure Corporation (Rep 1026)

Change means giving up old behaviors and adopting new ones.

When organization or teams start on a journey to adopt agile, both practices and mindset, these new behaviors can create some friction with established and comfortable behaviors.

Recognizing where these “rubs” will occur and the all too common anti-patterns typically adopted to address them can prepare managers and teams for this change.

If you’ve ever been in a discussion and found yourself saying, “But we can’t do that here.” or Yeah, we tried that too; didn’t work for us, either!”, then you have experienced either a rub or an anti-patterns.

Teams and organizations that are new to Agile often face some common challenges.

Through trial and error they attempt to adjust and resolve these issues.

Agile will challenge existing policies and processes that are comfortable but may not be getting the desired results. Often, what seem to be logical and prudent responses actually produce a result that is the opposite of the desired outcome creating more problems than it solves.

These solutions that seem to make sense but in practice don’t work are called anti-patterns.

In this session Fissure will examine numerous Agile Organizational Rubs and Anti-patterns that are commonly encountered, why they would seem to work and why they don’t, along with suggestions for solutions that truly do work.

Once offloaded from the drudgery of data preparation, data scientists have a career-making opportunity to use more diverse data sets to deliver bigger business returns.

Case in point: Spend Analytics.

In Procurement, enterprises struggle to answer basic questions such as:

  • How many suppliers do I have?
  • What’s the impact on our spend if the price of steel rises 10%?,
  • Which suppliers have the lowest total cost of ownership?, and
  • Which business units should collaborate to bundle their spend?

In this hands-on session, you’ll learn about:

  • How Big Data has changed the definition of spend analytics
  • Three advanced analytics being performed by best-in-class procurement organizations
  • Ways to accelerate procurement’s analytics journey
  • How companies using Tamr are gaining new levels of insight into spend over previous analytic tools, in one case identifying new savings opportunities worth $100M+

Presenters:

Matthew Holzapfel (LinkedIn profile) is an independent procurement consultant at Tamr Inc. Previously, Matt held positions in Strategy and Strategic Sourcing where he led the implementations of new sourcing techniques to significantly lower procurement costs. Matt has a BS in Mechanical Engineering and is a recent graduate of Harvard Business School.

Eliot Knudsen (LinkedIn profile) is a Field Architect at Tamr where he works on technical implementation and deployment. Eliot works with fortune 100 clients to reduce spend by unifying sourcing data and implementing procurement analytics. Previously Eliot was a Data Scientist in Healthcare IT, applying machine learning to patient-provider matching algorithms. Eliot is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in computational mathematics, statistics and machine learning.

Business Analysis, like most professions is fraught with moments of uncertainty, anxiety, fear and all sorts of emotions, both positive and negative.

We often have to deal with stakeholders who at one point or the other express feelings of project-related frustration based upon unmet requirements.

The ability to manage one’s emotions and that of others is necessary to become a mature Business Analyst (BA).

In this webinar Terrell will detail how we can become more emotionally mature and grow our skillsets as a BA.

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is about identifying and understanding our own and other people’s emotions with the objective of channeling these emotions towards a positive outcome.

A BA with high emotional intelligence is able to decipher their emotions as well as that of others to help form healthy working relationships; allowing the successful identification of project requirements.

This webinar will focus on the key intersection of EI and BA, and how EI can be applied to become a great BA.

Topics will include the following:

  • What is EI and how does it compare to IQ?
  • Emotional IQ and the BA.
  • The four key components to EI.
  • Incorporating EI into your personal development plan.
  • Moving from a good BA to a great one through improved EI.

About the Presenter: Terrell Smith (LinkedIn profile),, MPA, PMP, CBAP With over 25 years of experience in a wide range of project management and business analysis assignments, he brings concepts to life in a practical and easy to apply manner. Terrell has assisted clients in the development of project management methodologies, risk assessments, quality management, agile methods, problem solving, rescuing troubled projects, implementing business analysis best practices, and team building.
