Presenters & Sessions:

Building Agile Teams for Accelerated Project Cycles

Developing enterprise applications in the highly-regulated industries of healthcare and education is no small task; doing so consistently and rapidly in an innovation-driven, high-demand, fast-moving ecosystem is a challenge that could break any project manager.

The answer? SUPER teams + POWERFUL platforms + GREAT partnerships = ACCELERATED solutions.

Rapid application development (RAD) is not solely about implementing agile or scrum principles or picking the right people for development – it’s about building an ethos that is focused on teams, selecting platforms that allow for creative development, and developing relationships with vendors and clients that evolve into synergistic collaborative partnerships.

In this interactive and engaging talk you will learn about some of the principles that have led the Technology Innovation and Consumer Experience team at Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health System to analyze, design, develop, release, evaluate, and support innovative enterprise applications with small teams in less than 30-days.

Solutions such as JeffBnB (emergency boarding system), At Your Service (administrative patient rounding system), and Strength through Insights (one of only 14 ResearchKit apps in the Apple app store) will provide practical examples of a team-driven project delivery system that has worked for Jefferson and has driven innovative development in less than 2 years.

You will also learn – via practical examples and proven results – how to build, engage, and inspire high–performing teams that evolve and learn as they creatively design and rapidly develop solutions that matter.

Presenter: Neil Gomes (LinkedIn profile) is the Vice President for Technology Innovation and Consumer Experience at Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health System.  Neil drives technology innovation in healthcare, consumer experience and engagement, and education. Neil also helps define innovation strategy and design innovation development programs via Jefferson’s Innovation Team, and played a key role  securing funding to develop a high-tech, consumer-centric, integrative health center.

Why you should care about Cybersecurity

Stakes are high and you no longer have the luxury of not being a “cyber” person or technically adequate. Project management has embraced the convenience and speed of technology – which creates corresponding vulnerabilities, threats, or weaknesses.

In this presentation Merritt will provide takeaways tailored for project managers and discuss best cybersecurity practices, changes in technology, and how  to focus on prioritizing risks while identifying emerging issues.

Find out which forms of security make most sense for your project, who should have access to sensitive data, and which breach notification laws apply.

Presenter: Merritt Baer (LinkedIn profile) is a cybersecurity expert with extensive experience in government, who also  provides business, law, and technology strategy to companies. Merritt speaks regularly on emerging areas including the future of the Internet, current cybersecurity issues, corporate interactions with government cyber, women in tech, entrepreneurism & innovation.  Merritt is a graduate of Harvard Law School. Based in Washington, DC, she is a Fellow at the EastWest Institute, an Adjunct Professor of Cybersecurity at the University of Maryland.

Communication Tools & Techniques
In a Virtual & Mobile World

As our world becomes increasingly virtual and mobile, effective communication has become increasingly more challenged.

Remote communication makes it’s harder to build relationships, gain trust, and create empathy. However, the benefits of working virtual and mobile still outweigh any negative impacts to communication.

This session will discuss techniques and processes for improving project communications for virtual and mobile staff.

Beth will also review a variety of technology tools, beyond the usual suspects, that can increase effectiveness when working virtual and mobile.

In this session you will:

  1. Learn about different strategies for effective remote communication that you can apply to your projects.
  2. Get some quick tips on how to make your online communications more effective.
  3. Walk away with ideas on how to use a variety of technology tools and apps in different areas of project management to maximize communication opportunities.

Presenter: Beth Spriggs, PMP, (LinkedIn profile) is an experienced project manager, trainer, and speaker. Her extensive portfolio consists of everything from bite-sized undertakings to years-long overhauls that impact every aspect of the organization. She began her professional career in IT and in 1999 and has combined her love for tech and project management. Some of Beth’s contributions include delivering webinars for ProjectManagement.com, speaking at NTEN’s Nonprofit Technology Conference and the DC Web Women’s Conference.

The Digitally Disrupted Project Manager:
The Thing(s) About The Internet of Things
“IoT” Changes Everything!

The IoT is the catalyst for change across all industries, domains and technology.

An unprecedented explosion of data in multiple formats is coming your way and will impact your projects.

The challenge of diving into this new domain can be intimidating – and as the project manager, you need to know how to rapidly transform and integrate these changes into your project.

The IoT changes everything!

This session will explain what the “IoT” entails and how it will influence your projects. Get tips on how to cope with the changes and disruptions and learn why you’ll need to implement a different type of strategy to win in this highly competitive market.

Find out how you can be the change agent to drive IoT innovation, business outcomes, solution design, and deployment.

Presenter: Priya Patra, PMP  (LinkedIn profile) is a CSM (Certified Scrum Master), TOGAF 9.1 Certified Enterprise Architect, and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, IGATE Certified Internal Auditor.  She has extensive experience in managing large scale ERP implementation, product, framework development and Technology CoE projects. Priva also has engaged in Talent , Competency Development Program at the account level to strategize for optimal resource utilization and revenue generation.

Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC)
For Project Managers

As technology continuously changes, it is imperative for project managers to consider governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) before technology is implemented within organizations from a cybersecurity perspective. There are many issues that project managers face, but having background in GRC equips PMs with the knowledge and somewhat predictability of how to effectively and efficiently manage project with less issues. This presentation will focus on many concepts in GRC, issues projects managers face, and best practices in GRC that will assist project managers and their teams on the current and future projects.

Presenter:  Christina Cooper (LinkedIn profile) PMP ISSA ICMPC CEH, Sec+ is a cybersecurity professional with experience in data center operations and security, cybersecurity policy, cybersecurity awareness, information security (InfoSec) office development, vendor management, security assessment and authorization (SA&A), and risk and vulnerability analysis. As an entrepreneur, trainer, and speaker, she is  co-author in the book Protecting Our Future: Educating a Cybersecurity Workforce, Vol. 2. She holds a BA in Business and Economics  and is pursuing her Master of Science in Cybersecurity at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC).

Closing Keynote:
All the Projects that Make Up
The $20 Trillion Market

Earlier this year at the Davos World Economic Forum several emerging technologies were presented and discussed. While each of these emerging technologies have significant market opportunities in and of themselves, the combination of all of them is the real story.

Pulling together the market projections for these technology suggest that they will create a period of rapid technological advancement by 2025 that is far greater than anything experienced in history.

The overall total for these technologies is likely to hit or exceed $25 trillion USD by 2025.

Stop for a moment and think about all the projects that will be a part of that HUGE marketspace.

Now consider all the security issues. These are new technologies. Something different. Something we don’t have any experience with.

Are your prepared to be a program or project manager on one or more of those programs and projects?

Presenter:  Kevin Coleman is a published thought-leader that speaks addressing the hottest topics in business, government who’s career spans 25+ years.  He has spoken before the U.S. Congress, the United Nations, U.S. Strategic Command (StratCom) and to leading executives in 42 countries. He was the Chief Strategist for Netscape., prior to that,VP and Chief Strategist at Claremont Technology Group .  He joined Claremont from his position as a principal in the National Consulting Practice at CSC and began his career at  Deloitte.
