Risks combine and interact to create turbulence in the time, cost, and scope of the project.

Of the nine knowledge areas of project management, risk management is the most challenging domain for construction professionals due to the shortage of qualified manpower and limited resourceful contracting agencies (technical and commercial).

The process of taking a project from conception to completion is complex and entails time-consuming design and production.

A project goes through various levels of interaction between multitudes of people, with different skill sets competing interests and also involves planning, scheduling, and coordination of a wide range of both independent and interrelated activities.

In addition, the influence of external factors requires this industry to solve complex environmental issues.

In this webinar Manavasi Ramesh (LinkedIn profile) aims to explain risk management principles, the implementation of a risk management plan, and strategies to overcome threats and turn around the perception of risks from negative to positive opportunities.

Manavasi will also focus on the challenges faced by the construction sector to overcome the impact of risks through case studies. The emphasis is on a broader understanding of risk management practices to ensure the success of the projects.

Are Your Computers Safe?

Computer hacking in its various forms has commanded headlines in recent years, and never has the topic had a more obvious impact than in the American political drama of the past half-year or so.

Regardless of our political leanings, it is incumbent upon each of us in the computer “industry” to be well informed on computer security for two reasons:

  1. So we can exercise due professional diligence to secure the systems we create and work with, and
  2. So we can participate in public discourse in a way that replaces hysteria (on the one extreme) and complacency (on the other) with clear-headed discussion of the available information.

So, was President Trump right when he said to reporters on New Years Eve that, “no computer is safe”?

Join Alan Koch (LinkedIn profile)  and take a look at what is involved in making computers safe as we delve into this question.

Management Bias Impacts Your Team
Do You Know How?

Our behavior is impacted by the assumptions, biases and stereotypes (positive and negative) that exist in our subconscious.

We tend to believe that we are seeing everything in its complete form, however, it’s not possible for us to see the world as it is. Instead, we see the world through the lens of our experiences, biases and various identity factors.

As a result, the assumptions we hold shape the decisions that we make, but these decisions may be creating unequal outcomes for our employees.

For leaders, it is important to be aware of how our experiences, influenced by intersecting factors, can influence the way in which we communicate, how we approach and resolve conflict and ultimately how we lead.

Our behavior towards others is influenced by hidden biases which can impact how we act, react and interact.

Left unmanaged, certain employees may be disadvantaged and we may be marginalizing contributions from specific groups.

Steps can be taken to minimize the impact of unconscious bias in the workplace.

This includes approaching policies in an informed way, specific training and intervention, empathy-driven dialogue and heightened self-awareness.

This workshop will present an introduction to unconscious bias and identify ways in which empathy can be used as a tool to better understand and effectively lead others.

Strategies that challenge our assumptions, improve our policies and create a workplace that is inclusive will be explored.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop an understanding and raise awareness of unconscious bias and its impact on business practice.
  2. Examine connections between unconscious bias and empathy.
  3. Evaluate the impact of unconscious bias on communication, conflict resolution and decision making.
  4. Explore and develop strategies to reduce levels of automatic bias.

Join Rumeet Billan, Ph.D. (LinkedIn profile) President and CEO, Viewpoint Leadership Inc. and learn how “Unconscious Bias” impacts your communication, conflict resolution, & your decision making.
