Kevin Richardson (LinkedIn profile) will walk through some common examples of two types of projects and how to wrestle them to the ground:

  1. Ones that are initiated in a corporate setting
    • like Electronic Arts, Nickelodeon (Viacom), and Mattel with a company culture and mature services like HR, legal, IT,  accounting etc.;
  2. Others initiated at startups or independent studios
    • where you start at the ground and build upward (companies that may start up solely for that single production).

Once attendees are introduced to these two types of projects, Kevin will take a deeper look into:

  • How we can, with a team of creatives with specific skills
    • Software project managers, engineers, technical directors, writers, artists, character designers, story tellers, animators
  • Apply PM process and tricks of the trade to create requirements,
  • Unify the vision and goals, and manage towards an extraordinary output.

Who this webinar is for?

Project managers who are working on, or are curious about, how to run successful large entertainment projects where intellectual property (story, characters, brands) is at the core of the output.

The projects may be multi-year, 100k to 20+ million, launched in a large corporate or startup environment, and must succeed in a crowded, and highly competitive consumer category (TV, movies, games, rides, books, museum installations,  etc.).

One of the major challenges during the project gathering requirements phase, is to be assured that all requirements have been met.

The more accurate the job is, the more likely your project will succeed.

In this context, how often do PMs consider Compliance and Internal Control at this stage?

Today, in a world with growing organizations, keen to launch their IPOs, with increasingly cross-department projects, increasingly integrated systems, corporate compliance is one of the fastest growing areas.

Projects need to deliver efficiency, but at the same time, must comply with internal policies and ensure there will be elements to protect organizations from the growing risk of fraud. In this context, PMs who are familiar with the characteristics of corporate governance and internal control principles are more likely to succeed.

Forget digital business – it’s the digital society that is quickly emerging – blending the physical and the virtual worlds.

It’s affecting not only our business models and how we work, but how we live and interact.

Technology is not only changing the way people interact; the relationship between people and technology itself is changing.

More than ever, technology is part of our identity. It’s time to rethink a few things.

  • What does our digital identity look like?
  • Do terms such as “user” and “designer” still make sense?
  • How do we function with skill and in comfort in the digital society?
  • And who is responsible when the machines mess up?

Join Frank Buytendijk (LinkedIn profile, Gartner bio) and find out!

Discussion Topics:

  • How the relationship between people and technology is changing, and how that affects our identity
  • How business models need to evolve to fit the new digital society
  • Why digital “connectivism” is a philosophy for the digital society

Live Webinar June 22nd, 2017 – 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm EDT
By: The Corporate Education Group (REP 1011) Course ID: BAW1234
Duration: 1 Hour Credits: 1 Category A PDU – Free PDU

Use cases and user stories are both excellent techniques for understanding what a user needs from a product.

While both have a similar purpose, use cases and user stories are not meant to be used interchangeably. That is why it’s important for a business analyst to understand the difference.

The older of the two techniques is the use case, which captures usage scenarios.

In other words, a use case documents how an individual uses a product to accomplish something of value. This technique works well for projects where functional requirements and usage scenarios must be – and can be – specified upfront. However, what if you can’t know the requirements upfront?

In a user story, the user and what they need the product to accomplish is also specified, but in contrast to use cases, at a much higher level.

Recognizing which technique is best suited to your situation is the key.

In this webinar you will learn to:

  • Determine when to apply use cases and user stories to define stakeholder requirements.
  • Elaborate use cases through scenarios.
  • Augment use cases and user stories with diagrams and visuals for better communication

Presenter: Dr. Martin Schedlbauer (LinkedIn profile) has been leading and authoring seminars and workshops in business analysis, software engineering, and project management for over twenty years. Martin, an accomplished business analysis subject matter expert, is a recognized leader in software development practices, a practicing scrum master, experienced software architect.
