Improving Project Handover

Share

Online Webinar  – Recorded April 12th 2018
Activity Type: Education – Online or Digital Media  1 PDU – Free
Provider: Association for Project Management – APM

In this webinar Owen Anthony will focus on practical ways to improve the transition from project delivery into business as usual.  Looking at lessons learned from other schemes and sharing success factors that support better handovers of schemes, the emphasis will be to help projects deliver benefits.

Billions of pounds are spent globally every year on projects and much has been written and taught about how to manage them as effectively as possible, but if they are not then handed over well, what is the point?

Without focusing on how to pass the project into the business as usual/ end user environment, the chances of the project delivering the benefits it was commissioned for in the first place are significantly reduced.

Owen led an APM research fund study which aimed to identify how handovers can be improved. The study drew upon learning from other organisations including Crossrail, The Ministry of Defence, Mediacity and many others.

The purpose of this talk is to share the findings of the research report, along with some practical tips and recommendations that can be applied to projects to improve their handover.

The topic of the webinar, close to the border of psychology, includes those ethical aspects that are tremendously influencing our projects and social life as well.

The presenters, Simona Bonghez (LinkedIn profile), & Leah Brophy (LinkedIn profile) are members of the PMI Ethics Member Advisory Group.

Simona & Leah will talk about the psychological distance between our actions and their impact, about how this distance explains some of our temptations (especially when we fell pray to them) and about the broken window concept applied in ethics (something that we encounter more and more nowadays).

Ethics tools available for practitioners are presented and their possible practical results shortly described.
