Scrum Master and Project Manager are two roles that, for the past 15 years, coexisted well, especially in IT projects.

From the very technical role that was part of the software development team, the Scrum Master evolved into a new organizational role, sometimes with a well defined job description and with responsibilities that transcended the technical background from which it originated.

Although the role was defined in the Scrum framework, the Scrum Master role is now present in other frameworks and there are many training courses and certifications available from other organizations with different views on the skills required and the responsibilities of the Scrum Master.

It is additional evidence that the role is evolving beyond what the Scrum Guide authors intended.

The Project Manager role also changed since the Agile Manifesto publication and the adoption of Agile delivery frameworks. Mainly due to a dynamic business environment, more geographically distributed workforce, and last but not least because of the digital revolution: cloud, social media and mobile technology’s impact on how projects are managed and delivered.

Skills developed as a Scrum Master, like team and people management, are a good foundation for career development.

Like in any other profession Scrum Masters will reach a point where they feel the need to go beyond a Scrum Team of 5-9. Project Management is one option for career change but is it the right one?

This presentation with  Stelian Roman (LinkedIn profile); is based on his experience as a Development Team Lead, Development Manager, Scrum Master and Project Manager working with Scrum teams.

It contains also advice for Project Managers and Scrum Masters that want to play a dual role.

“The writing is the hardest part.”  That’s a frequent comment when L&D professionals discuss how we develop training materials.

Join Award-Winning Learning Experience Designer for Cinecraft productions, Kim Lindsey in a quick-paced quest to find the best words and use them well.

Whether you’re a newcomer to L&D or a seasoned professional, you’ll come away with strategies and insights on writing (and some nifty templates too!) that will make your process easier and your output even better than before.
