Live Webinar – April 29th 2019 7:30 am – 8:30 am EDT
Live Webinar – April 29th 2019 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM BT
Activity Type: Education – Course or Training  1 Hour  1 PDU
Provider: Association for Project Management – APM

Note:  This webinar is an introduction to the Assurance SIG publication Measures for Assurance; the recently established user group and sharing of one or more examples of user experience.

The Matt Bruce-Kingsmill ChPP FAPM MCMI  & Tim Podesta will share the experiences behind the development and use of the recently launched Measures for Assurance toolkit – a set of criteria published by the APM Assurance Specific Interest Group (SIG) to help project professionals deliver assurance in a more consistent way.

The tool blends expertise from project professionals with several years’ experience in a range of industries, including: IT, construction, infrastructure, railways, manufacturing, petrochemicals and oil and gas. It provides clear guidance on what healthy projects look like, based on expert judgment and first-hand evidence.

The toolkit’s 10 criteria for assurance cover all aspects of projects – from client and scope to governance – and can be used by independent assurance providers, project teams for self-assessment as well as project teams for the development of their approach to managing and assuring the project.

It attempts to answer the discrepancy in the language and frameworks applied by project assurers. For example, the biggest difference found between sectors is their emphasis on safety – which is key in highly hazardous industries such as oil and gas. Assurance changes the starting order to safety, particularly process safety.

The webinar will support anyone involved with project assurance in reviewing the toolkit. In the compiling stage, the differences in the precise terminology used based on company and industry practices is common – this interactive event will support attendees with their own implementation.

This webinar is suitable for professionals with any level of experience.

Building on the very successful webinar “Integrating Agile Techniques into Traditional Projects,” Lynda Carter (LinkedIn profile).author of The Practitioner’s Guide to Project Management: Simple, Effective Techniques That Deliver Business Value and David Davis, (LinkedIn profile) will present creating visual and interactive communications to convey status and allow for feedback from your audience.

Lynda & David will focus on low tech/high touch means to tell a story and allow for stakeholder feedback.

By having all team members contribute to the chart and take ownership of its content – everybody will have a better understanding of their purpose in contributing to the project benefits.

The charts that will be discussed include:

  •          The Project Vision Chart
  •          A Value Map Canvas
  •          A Storyboard Map
  •          Risk Charts
  •          Others

The PMO challenge is to relay knowledge in a relevant, easily consumed, and highly visual manner.  Whether the need is to portray velocity in an agile environment, project schedule via a Gantt chart, or Risk Impact via a Probability Chart, the demand for graphical presentation is never ending.

This presentation will focus on creating Interactive/Visual Communications for your project.  It doesn’t matter where your project fits on the Predictive/Agile continuum – the opportunity is there for using visual control charts to communicate with all the stakeholders.

This webinar is for all project types at any stage of the project.  It’s relevant, it’s practical, and most of all it’s delivered by practitioners for practitioners.  Let’s take hybrid to a new level and exchange ideas on visual/interactive communication.

For New CIOs (& Others)

One of a new CIO’s first challenges — no matter if he or she has prior experience or is brand new to the position — is to establish a good rapport with C-Suite members and become influential among them.

That can make the difference between being seen as the “IT person”’ or being considered a trusted ally among the top management.

Under normal conditions, it can take many months or a few years, but in this webinar, Daniel Sanchez Reina (LinkedIn profile, Gartner bio) Gartner Senior Director Analyst reveals the 3 actions that can accelerate a new CIO’s influence in the enterprise.

Discussion Topics:

  • How CIOs can influence business decisions
  • How CIOs can foster innovation across the entire enterprise
