The temporary, unique nature of the project management environment increases the challenges of management and its leadership function because the project manager typically has little to no authority or asset ownership.

This dynamic places a premium on influence-based leadership.  So how does a project manager develop an influence-based leadership style?

By examining an environment extremely similar to the project management environment – the military environment!

Military leaders have been accomplishing do-or-die, risk-laden, resource-constrained projects all over the world for millennia by influencing others, often counter to their survival instincts.

You don’t command people up a hill under fire and under the risk of loss of life or limb! You have to influence them through your knowledge, competency, and skills.

Join Eric “Doc” Wright (LinkedIn profile)  Ph.D., PMI-ACP, PMP, CPD and learn the “Veteran-to-Project Manager Influence-based Leadership Mindset” which was distilled from the collective 140+ years of experience of 7 senior tactical military leaders-turned-highly successful project managers to help you develop an effective influence-based leadership mindset proven to increase team performance – which increases project success, which increases the organization’s bottom line, which advances careers!

Is there a “best” culture? Most scholars would say “no” because it depends on what you’re trying to do.

Michael Lee Stallard discovered this is only partially true. No doubt cultures differ depending upon tasks. For example, engineering-oriented cultures differ from sales-oriented cultures.

When it comes to relationships, however, new scientific evidence shows that cultures which connect people are superior to cultures that isolate people and unfortunately, cultures of connection are rare.

Cultures of connection have been called a “superpower” because they make people smarter, happier and more productive. They have also been found to convey several benefits including higher employee engagement, productivity, innovation and adaptability.

In this Training magazine webcast, Michael and Katie Stallard, authors of Connection Culture: The Competitive Advantage of Shared Identity, Empathy and Understanding at Work will reveal the three essential elements to develop a culture of connection in your workplace that will help individuals and your organization thrive.

Learn:

  • 7 universal human needs to thrive at work
  • 3 types of cultures in the workplace
  • How connection boosts performance and protects people from stress
  • A model to create the best culture
  • Best practices to create a culture of connection

Presenter:

Michael Lee Stallard (LinkedIn@michaelstallard) delivers keynote speeches, teaches workshops, coaches and provides consulting services to help leaders create high-performance workplace cultures.  He is the president of E Pluribus Partners, a consulting firm and co-founder of ConnectionCulture.com.  Mike is a weekly contributor to the CEO Advisor column for Fox Business Network and the author of Connection Culture: The Competitive Advantage of Shared Identity, Empathy and Understanding at Work and Fired Up or Burned Out: Reignite Your Team’s Passion, Creativity and Productivity.

Transforming a talent supply chain is a journey rather than an overnight feat, and for a company that’s been running for 139 years, the change required leaders to challenge the conventional methods of succession planning and leadership development.

Ball Corporation, the well-known producer of products for home canning, is in a rapidly-changing industry.

Ball’s Talent Development team has experienced highs and lows along its transformation journey, especially in its approach to succession planning.

Throwing out the 9-box worked for Ball. Along with finding success by doing what some might call “unthinkable,”

Danae Atkins (LinkedIn profile) Director of Talent Development, Ball Corporation; shows how their changes include assessing current and future senior leaders with a development focus, developing leaders in alignment with its unique culture and values, and leveraging technology to take talent development to the next level.

Leave this webcast with the following takeaways:

  • Practical examples of how one company has re-examined its approach to succession planning
  • Ideas for using assessments as a basis for development
  • Examples of talent segmentation and evaluation of readiness that don’t involve a 9-box
  • Suggestions for using technology to further your talent management practices
