“What Gets Measured Gets Managed.” Jamie Mitchell explains, “I have heard this since the first day I got into software. Management wants metrics.
The managers would tell us that it allowed them to maximize our effort and the organizational profits. The more cynical of us always said that it was to make sure we were not sitting around drinking coffee instead of working.”
Not everything that matters can be measured. Not everything that we can measure matters. And this applies to software test automation more than in most software endeavors.
As an automator of almost 30 years, Jamie has struggled with the demand for metrics from management for most of his career. Most of the metrics that he has been forced to collect were—in his humble opinion—not only worthless, but also misleading and subject to manipulation by those who wanted to prove their point (no matter what that point was.)
Join the discussion, between Rex Black and Jamie Mitchell (LinkedIn profile), as they cover various kinds of metrics that have been suggested for automation.
Presenter: Rex Black (Amazon profile) is President of RBCS, a leader in software, hardware, and systems testing. The biggest change initiative facing all organizations is the need to devise their future working arrangements. All around us organizations are debating how to maximize the benefits from the temporary changes they adopted at the start of the pandemic, which over a year later have become the new norm.
There is greater flexibility of where, when and how we work, with the adoption of new tools and a cultural shift which has seen us bring our whole selves to work.
This practical session will help you to build your capability for managing change so you can help lead this initiative. Presenter and Change Management expert Melanie Franklin will provide a speedy masterclass on how to scope and plan this agile change using three key techniques:
- End goal to scope to the change
- Decomposition to create the roadmap
- Community map to drive collaboration across all stakeholders
This webinar is suitable for line managers looking to ignite the debate on hybrid working with their teams, project and programme managers likely to be involved in managing the changes, HR professionals whose expert guidance is going to be key to creating an equitable working environment and change professionals who will be responsible for leading everyone through the transition to the future.

Statistics show that globally about 33% of the food produced in the world is lost or wasted.
On the other hand, we have about 11 % of world suffering from malnutrition and hunger.
According to UN based WHO, even if 25 % of the food wasted is saved then it can alleviate the hunger problem. The problem is acute and is obvious but yet organizations and people have not come to grips with it.
Thankfully, during the last few years the situation is changing. The factors responsible for the problem can be identified under three approaches – Advocacy, Attitude and Know-How.
- How can we as project management professionals get involved and help solve this problem.
- What are opportunities from a business perspective?
- What are the options at work, home or in society?
- How can we contribute to the solution as part of our social responsibility?
In this webinar Raju Rao (LinkedIn profile) will look at these questions and present ideas and projects which will help save and recover food waste.
This is an awareness program. The first half of the presentation will deal with issue of food waste and food recovery worldwide and the current practices. The latter part will consider solutions to the problem, especially with a perspective of areas where project managers can contribute.
