What developers do and how they do it continues to change dramatically.
Developers have had to take on additional responsibilities as organizations have cut back or disbanded specialist teams focused on software QA, security and governance.
Once primarily originators of code, many developers now assemble software by combining hundreds or thousands of pre-built components.
This shift means that the developer domain extends beyond coding to include oversight of the services that surround software components, such as APIs, containers and IaaS platforms.
The successful developers of today and tomorrow will be ‘security-aware’ generalists skilled at managing the intricacies of the software supply chain.
These generalists will be primed to find and fix security vulnerabilities as they are assembling code versus the traditional and less effective approach of relying on security professionals to identify and remediate issues later on in the software lifecycle.
Attend this SD Times Live! discussion with Brian Fox (LinkedIn profile) CTO, Sonatype & Steve Poole (LinkedIn profile) Developer Advocate, Sonatypeto learn how organizations can provide developers clarity of responsibilities and guidance on making the right security and governance choices and using best practices from the get-go.
