Project managers are regularly confronted with complex and ambiguous situations in their projects.

Ambiguities in projects impact decision making, evoke negative emotions such as stress or anxiety and can have long-term consequences on job satisfaction and burnout.

In this webinar Anna Wiewiora (LinkedIn profile) & Peter O’Connor (LinkedIn profile), will present findings from three interrelated studies on managing ambiguities in projects.

They will present a catalog of ambiguous situations in projects, including types of ambiguities and specific examples of ambiguities in projects.

They will outline and discuss individual, organizational, and situational conditions affecting tolerance of ambiguity, and provide a range of recommendations and strategies for managing ambiguities in projects. Findings from these studies were drawn from the established literature on ambiguities and uncertainties in projects, data from interviews with experienced project managers, and a longitudinal survey with 275 project managers.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced organizations to move their learning and development offerings online. The digital transformation of learning has had advantages for workers now able to access learning and development online, at their own pace, and from their own homes.

However, the mad-dash approach to migrating existing face-to-face content to a digital format without time to intentionally cultivate a desired digital learning experience has left some learners and organizations with the impression that online learning is not as effective or engaging as face-to-face.

In this webinar Kiara Graham (LinkedIn profile), Learning Strategy Consultant with D2L will discuss the advantages of online learning and focus on strategies organizations can use to optimize their learning offerings for a new, digital, post-pandemic workplace.

Kiara will discuss:

  • The importance of online learning and how it can increase accessibility and adoption of learning programs
  • Intentionally cultivating social and peer-to-peer learning in a virtual environment
  • Measuring learner success, engagement, and adoption for online learning programs

One of the most significant questions for the future of the project management profession will be our position in relation to huge, complex, and overwhelming environmental and societal problems that cannot be resolved by any organization, government and individual alone.

Those problems are often referred to as Grand Challenges.

The climate crisis is a prime example of a Grand Challenge with an increasing urgency that needs to be addressed if societies around the world are to survive and prosper.

Up to now, project management as a profession has been key for ‘getting things done’, and as such is likely to be a key part of the solution for climate change and other such Grand Challenges.

In the webinar Efrosyni Konstantinou (LinkedIn profile), & Jenny McArthur (LinkedIn profile), Rob Leslie-Carter (LinkedIn profile), & Vedran Zerjav (LinkedIn profile) will reports the findings of PMI funded research to address the question of how project, program, and portfolio management (P3M) can be utilized and extended to deal with the climate crisis and other grand societal challenges.

One of the key findings of this research is that, while the role of large-scale multinational initiatives will be important, the power of change lies in the hands of project professionals – the people who know projects inside out and have the power to use projects to catalyze change far beyond the boundaries of the project.

Alongside several other key findings from this research, including the types of projects and project practices that are likely to achieve climate change objectives,

in this webinar they will discuss the role and the evolution of the project management profession that will be necessary for governments and organizations to tackle climate change and other grand challenges.
