This webinar introduces an article, “In Search of Project Management Principles”, recently published in the Project Management Journal, PMI’s research journal.
The objective of the article is to determine whether a set of project management principles can be identified to serve as a common framework for developers and publishers of project management standards and guidelines.
Twenty-two project management standards and other consensus documents were reviewed, revealing a common understanding across the globe of the requirements for effective project management.
Potential statements of principles were extracted, clustered into four categories, and 12 principles were found to be common to multiple sources.
These 12 principles were rewritten in a pre-specified, consistent form. The authors hope that this set of principles will serve as a common basis for future standards and guidelines on project management.
Learning Outcomes:
- Learn about the twelve principles discovered in the research.
- Understand how these principles affect them as project managers.
- Learn to distinguish between principles, practices, and processes.
- Increase their understanding of standards and how standards affect their workaday lives.
- Expand their knowledge of the standards and guidelines that affect project management around the world.

The methodology that Gartner uses to determine the Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 has been closely scrutinized over the years.
Gartner takes the feedback seriously, and continually investigates ways to improve the ranking, while balancing the need for change with consistency.
This year’s methodology changes included quantitative exercises, such as running potential changes against datasets from previous years.
We also solicited qualitative feedback from a cross-section of the supply chain community, including more than 100 companies and a formal feedback session with the Gartner Supply Chain Executive Advisory Board, which is composed of global chief supply chain officers from several leading companies.
In this webinar, Mike Griswold (LinkedIn profile, Gartner bio) Gartner Research VP provides insights into methodology changes for the 2020 Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 ranking, and how the Top 25 will continue to evolve in 2020 and beyond.
Discussion Topics:
- Why the methodology is changing
- The key methodology changes
- How the changes affect the Gartner Supply Chain Top 25

Upon visiting with trainers and presentation content creators, I find the following two statements to be invariably true: 1) The biggest issue that PowerPoint users face is placing too much text on a slide; and 2) The primary reason that people do this is because they ask their slides to function both as the visual for the live presentation and as the printed handout.
The frequency with which this strategy fails is breathtaking. In fact, for the sake of round numbers, let’s just call it 100%. Yes, this will fail every time you attempt it, and you, in turn, become an epic failure for attempting it.
This hour will rescue you from this fate. You will learn a different approach to content creation, you will be delivered from this guaranteed-to-fail practice, and you will distinguish yourself from 99% of people creating training and presentation content today.
