As organizations pursue their strategic goals, they likely maintain a project portfolio that is a mix of stable, definable projects built on proven procedures in addition to the more risky and undefined projects that are meant to create new products, services, or capabilities.

Project managers who can deliver results in an iterative fashion, with a high level of stakeholder involvement and increased customer feedback loops, are the first choice for these project assignments.  That is because they demonstrate facility with the new tools of the agile project manager.

Learning points covered in this webinar include:

  • Picking the right methodology for the job
  • Choosing what skills and relationships to enhance
  • Understanding how project planning, tracking, and team management work in these hybrid settings
  • Knowing your role in supporting organization change management

Presenter: Bonnie Cooper (LinkedIn profile), PMP®, Instructor and Consultant for Corporate Education Group, is a twenty-year information technology professional. In her current role as the Program Director for the Massachusetts Medical Society™(MMS) Corporate IT Program Office, Bonnie is responsible for coordinating the efforts of project teams, overseeing the implementation of project standards, managing the corporate IT strategic plan, and leading the program to re-engineer the membership platform for MMS.

Human and social services organizations remain under pressure as chief information officers (CIOs) continue to be challenged with societal disruptions.

The limited ability to recruit skilled talent further creates challenges in coping with operational workload. The emergence and expectations of new technologies, including AI tools such as large language models and generative AI (GenAI), promise significant gains.

However, AI is only one technology in a complex environment. According to the recent Gartner CIO and Technology Executive Survey, 88% of state and local government CIOs and technology executives say their organization has already deployed or expects to deploy AI by 2026. CIOs need to prioritize relevant technologies to meet various business needs and align strategic objectives with mature, scalable technologies.

Join this Gartner government IT webinar as Ben Kaner (Gartner bio) Gartner Sr Director Analyst explores how government CIOs and technology executives can inform their decisions about the timing, risks and rate of adoption for technology investments that are critical to the effective delivery of human services and social programs.

You will walk away from this session with answers to your vital questions, a copy of the research slides and recommended actions to help you achieve your goals.

Government IT projects are often prone to failure, and too often, the blame falls on CIOs and IT leaders. Much of the cause of project failure is usually unrelated to the IT department itself or the technology.

It can be attributed to an unwillingness or inability of senior government executives to engage in effective decision making, poor IT investment decision-making processes, and the failure of government executives to take responsibility for change management.

Yet, how can government IT leaders impact factors that seem beyond their control?

Join Michael Brown (LinkedIn profile, Gartner bio) Gartner Sr. Director Analyst  & Michael McFerron  (LinkedIn profile) Gartner Sr Director Analyst

to identify the six causes for government IT project failure, and how government CIOs and It leaders can address them.

Discussion Topics:

  • Discover ways to engage government business/mission units for a shared outcome
  • Create a structure of constant communication between government leaders, stakeholders and vendors
  • Empower product managers and business stakeholders to deal with changing conditions
