In their book “Playing to Win, How Strategy Really Works” A. G. Lafley and Roger Martin argue that leaders need to understand that the work of strategy is based on a cascade of interconnected choices that start with clarifying “winning aspirations” and end with the identification of the capabilities and systems required to win.

The power of this message is that it clearly highlights …
The two sides of strategy, thinking & doing!

Traditionally speaking the field of strategy focused on the art of crafting strategy, however, executives are increasingly recognizing that this is only one side of the coin.

A successful strategy takes into account not only the realities of markets and competition but is also built on the capabilities of the organization.

This is perhaps forcing management consultants and strategy gurus to rethink how they explain strategy.

There is greater recognition now that successful strategy is not simply dependent on putting in place a strong strategy setting framework but also an effective delivery mechanism that executes it.

Linking strategy thinking with doing presents a huge opportunity for project management both as a discipline and a profession to uniquely meet the strategy execution challenge.

It is within this context that PMOs can step up to the plate and bridge the gap between crafting and delivering.

In this webinar  Philip Diab (LinkedIn profile) will explore some critical questions addressing the role of the PMO in strategy execution.

Learn:

  • Are there different types of PMOs and are some better positioned to support the organization in strategy?
  • Does strategy execution warrant a re-examination of the role of PMOs in organizations?
  • Can the PMO embrace a mission that includes a diverse range of services and at the same time support executives in delivering strategy?
  • How can the PMO add value in strategy execution?
  • What capabilities does the PMO need to meet the strategy execution challenge?
  • Does the PMO team composition need to be adjusted to address strategy execution?

The webinar will leverage lessons learned based on real life examples to explain how the PMO can add value to the field of strategy execution.

Technology and service providers (TSPs) should expect economic uncertainty to challenge their revenue growth goals.

Uncertainty, by definition, compromises routine strategies, rules of thumb, and assumptions. This can lead to confusion and delays in market signals, decision making, and action.

Despite these headwinds, overall IT spending increased in 2022 and will increase in 2023 – in every country and industry.

Unfortunately, this statement cannot be extended to every IT market Gartner tracks. Yet, there were TSPs that achieved breakaway growth in 2022.

In this webinar, John-David Lovelock, (LinkedIn profile, Gartner bio) Gartner Distinguished VP Analyst &Gartner expert Mark McDonald (LinkedIn profile, Gartner bio) Gartner  Vice President  will review the Global IT Spending Forecast, the CIOs’ reactions to inflation, the contextual change in digital transformation projects, and how this all affects IT markets – which are growing vs those that will retract in 2023.

Plus, they’ll review how you can use a Gartner framework to understand your exposure to and implications of uncertainty, so that you can be set up for growth in 2023 and beyond.

Discussion Topics:

  • What Gartner forecasts for IT Spending growth in 2023 and beyond
  • Understand which markets are positively and negatively impacted by the current uncertainties
  • Gain insight from the companies that generated breakaway growth in 2022

While diversity, equity, and inclusion have been a focal point of some organizations for many years, others have only recently begun to dedicate time and resources to such initiatives.

DE&I strategies have historically focused only on full-time hires. Now, all trends point towards organizations needing to expand the scope of DE&I to additionally consider their contingent workers.

In this webcast, Irene Koulianos (LinkedIn profile) will explore three ways total workforce management can help improve the effectiveness of your DE&I strategy by supporting:

  • Better decision making

Data and analytics leaders recognize there is an inherent need for data-driven business decision making, but linking this demand to specific business benefits and outcomes can be difficult, deterring stakeholder buy-in and support.

According to respondents from the Gartner 2023 CDAO Agenda Survey, only a third of data and analytics functions are effective at showing demonstrable value to their stakeholders (35%) or promoting a data-driven decision style (31%), and only one in four achieved objectives for data monetization (24%).

This makes it challenging enough to successfully define a business case that will achieve executive approval, even without hiding behind vague statements about “better decision making.” CDAOs must provide strong leadership for selling the value of data and analytics to their stakeholders.

In this webinar Alan D. Duncan (LinkedIn profile, Gartner bio) Gartner VP Analyst reveals the six steps data and analytics leaders must take to obtain buy-in from their stakeholders.

Discussion Topics:

  • Set a strong vision for the desired end state and business outcomes that stakeholders care about
  • Overcome inhibitors preventing progress on data and analytics initiatives
  • Take immediate actions that build momentum for the business domains

Have you ever wondered why innovative organizational leaders and high-performing developers, product designers,

UX specialists, etc. – who are otherwise excellent at what they do – are slow and hesitant to adopt Agile methodologies?

Agile transformation is a hot topic right now, but many organizations rush the implementation process without pausing to assess and address foundational issues.

The truth is, new hires or new Agile teams aren’t entirely convinced that Agile methodologies can support their expertise and simplify their day-to-day tasks. They perceive Agile transformation as “just another thing” their company is trying and are reluctant to commit.

In this workshop, Aina Aliieva (LinkedIn profile) will present a road map that will help agile practitioners and executives interested in agile transformation identify the root cause of resistance of new Agile teams and new hires.

Aina willl also look at the challenges Agile evangelists such as Scrum Masters, Agile Coaches, and POs face in implementing these methodologies.

The goal is to get all Agile stakeholders aligned with a company’s or a product’s vision and reframe how Agile is seen and used by everyone involved. After this interactive presentation, Agile specialists, executives, and product owners will know exactly how to facilitate Agile transformations with a culture-first approach, supported by coaching, mentorship, and the right kind of accountability (avoiding micromanagement).

The result?

Teams who truly believe in the potential of Agile methodologies and continue to incrementally incorporate them in their work without resistance, thus accelerating their learning curve.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Uncover critical challenges faced by Agile evangelists such as  Scrum Masters, Agile Coaches, and POs in implementing Agile methodologies in their company or teams
  • Understand the importance of learning by failing fast (based on key takeaways from the Dunning-Kruger effect and Dreyfus Model of Skill Mastery)
  • How to facilitate a culture shift in the organization to make Agile transformation easier
