Online Webinar  – Recorded 1st Mar 2017
Activity Type: Education – Online or Digital Media  1 PDU – Free
Provider: Association for Project Management – APM

Stakeholder Engagement helps us understand what people involved with a project want, and how to engage them to help achieve project success. For both new and experienced project managers, a big challenge is where to go for guidance on the topic.

The Stakeholder Engagement Focus Group, part of the APM People SIG , has started to collate stakeholder engagement resources on the APM Website.

This webinar provides an overview of the information and tools currently available and how you can help add to and improve this facility.

There are many reasons why projects may struggle to meet their goals but a lack of effective stakeholder engagement is widely acknowledged to be one of the main issues.

The Stakeholder Engagement Focus Group (SEFG), now part of the APM People SIG, was established to encourage practitioners to make stakeholder engagement a higher priority.

The first project for the SEFG was to start collating stakeholder engagement resources.

The aim is to support project professionals by sharing case studies, creating an introduction to the key principles of stakeholder engagement, and pointing to relevant and useful reference materials.

These APM Stakeholder Resources are now available on the APM website and .accessible to anyone!

In this webinar Fran and Ian will introduce the Stakeholder Engagement Focus Group, provide an update on the SEFG’s progress to date and the materials available on the APM site, and plans for improving and building on these resources.

Presenters:

Fran Bodley-Scott: A veteran marketing & communication consultant with many years experience  and founder of Marketing In Control, Fran specializes in customer retention and stakeholder engagement solutions. She’s been involved with projects throughout her career, ranging from product development to organisation change and business strategy implementation. Fran is an active member of the SEFG. She is a keen supporter of the PMO Flashmob and is also an active member of the APM Stakeholder Engagement Focus Group.

Ian Cribbes (LinkedIn profile) has worked with a wide variety of organisations within the UK and internationally, leading projects with values in excess of £35 million pounds.  Ian is a co-opted member of the People SIG committee and an active member of the Stakeholder Engagement Focus Group.  Ian now runs his own company assisting organisations with programme and project management issues and advising on stakeholder engagement processes.

Call for case studies:

Another important message from the webinar was a request for case studies. To help the SEFG support other practitioners, project managers are encouraged to provide case studies about their stakeholder engagement experience, tips and recommendations. If you have a case study to share, use the template provided below and send it to: SEFG@apm.org.uk.

Once upon a time in a land far, far away, trainers told creative, captivating stories that piqued the interest of colleagues, clients, and customers.

These trainers did not say, “Trust me on this” or “Take my word for it,” nor did they overwhelm their listeners with complex bar graphs or slay them with bullet (points).

Rather, they used the power of storytelling to get people to agree, believe, comply, or act. Stories help people sit up and listen, and most importantly, connect!

As trainers, you are in the communication business. Whether designing or delivering, persuasion is at the heart of what we do—and storytelling is one of the most impactful ways we do it.

In this webinar Constance will uncover the art and architecture of storytelling to reveal the power of persuasion.

The session will answer these questions:

  • How do we move from communicating to “inform” to communicating to “advocate” in sales and marketing presentations?
  • What are the roles of trust and emotions in persuasion?
  • Does speaking virtually change how we should persuade?

Presenter:  Dr. Constance Staley (LinkedIn profile) Professor of Communication, University of Colorado, Colorado Springs & is a sought-after conference keynoter and a highly popular trainer. She holds a B.S. in education, an M.A. in linguistics, and a Ph.D. in communication.  Connie was selected as a Fulbright Scholar to teach in the republic of Kyrgyzstan in the former Soviet Union; has won the University of Colorado Outstanding Teacher Award; and was twice nominated for a CASE U.S. Professor of the Year Award.  Connie has published 20 books/editions and recently served as Special Assistant to the Chancellor, leading a university initiative to design a next-generation campus Career Center for students. Connie currently teaches university courses in Communication, Training, and Consulting; Professional Public Speaking Online; and Conflict Management.

Today’s professionals need their organizations to help them navigate their world at work in the face of extreme uncertainty and change.

Socioeconomic trends, including automation, changing demographics, and increased social polarization, are splintering society and creating profound new challenges and opportunities for learning and development.

Add the dramatic rise of technological advancements such as generative AI applications in the workplace — and many workers feel like they can’t keep up.

In the midst of such a volatile environment, organizations are discovering that cohort or group-based learning is a powerful way to engage employees, expand learning ecosystems, and embrace technological developments rather than fear them.

In this webinar featuring NovoEd leaders Todd Moran (LinkedIn profile) Chief Learning Strategist, NovoEd and Jacob Nikolau,(LinkedIn profile) Head of Product Marketing, NovoEd explore the movement toward cohort-based learning — especially as applied to higher-order human skills — and how it can develop deep capabilities while bringing the texture, dynamism, and weight of in-person human interaction into remote and hybrid contexts.

This discussion will feature insights and key takeaways from recent research conducted by NovoEd and global HR research and membership firm Executive Networks.

By the end of this webinar you will:

  • Understand how cohort-based learning can be applied to develop the evolving capabilities needed in transforming workplaces
  • Discover how “everboarding” can address the challenges of engaging remote learners in a lifelong learning journey that doesn’t end at the onboarding process
  • Uncover how organizations can implement learning programs that create the connected experience people crave in a time of rapid transformation
  • Hear examples of successful cohort-based learning at leading companies, including the implementation of capability academies and their long-lasting impact
