To facilitate a meeting is to lead a group of people through a predefined agenda with clearly stated and understood goals in such a way that every attendee understands their role, adheres to the Rules of Engagement and participates according to their responsibilities within that meeting’s architecture.

Learning how to do so in spite of those attending the meeting is one of the greatest challenges any businessperson faces. Based on the final chapter of her book Everything’s a Project (and Everyone’s a Project Manager): Book Three: Communicating, Christine Rose (LinkedIn profile) shares that when you understand your role and your responsibility, you will own any meeting you lead.

Design thinking has become an incredibly popular concept, and has come to be identified and applied in a variety of different contexts.

In the context of project management, it is important to understand what it is and where it fits. There is a need to relate design thinking to other related strategies of working and doing, and know where it aligns and the kinds of challenges that it supports.

Most importantly, there is a need to understand where, when and why design thinking as a concept might be relevant in a project world.

In this webinar Mark Mullaly (LinkedIn profile) author of Researching the Value of Project Management demystifies the concept of design thinking, and provides guidance in how to think about it, how to leverage it and where to consider its use in the project management role.

If you are curious about design thinking, its relevance and its role in managing projects, this is a webinar you won’t want to miss.

This webinar introduces an article, “In Search of Project Management Principles”, recently published in the Project Management Journal, PMI’s research journal.

The objective of the article is to determine whether a set of project management principles can be identified to serve as a common framework for developers and publishers of project management standards and guidelines.

Twenty-two project management standards and other consensus documents were reviewed, revealing a common understanding across the globe of the requirements for effective project management.

Potential statements of principles were extracted, clustered into four categories, and 12 principles were found to be common to multiple sources.

These 12 principles were rewritten in a pre-specified, consistent form. The authors hope that this set of principles will serve as a common basis for future standards and guidelines on project management.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learn about the twelve principles discovered in the research.
  2. Understand how these principles affect them as project managers.
  3. Learn to distinguish between principles, practices, and processes.
  4. Increase their understanding of standards and how standards affect their workaday lives.
  5. Expand their knowledge of the standards and guidelines that affect project management around the world.
