Modern work can be complicated, and economic pressures require businesses to improve continuously.

The need for innovation, distributed teams, and competitive and regulatory pressures drive an organization to improve and learn constantly.  Learning throughout the project is not something that should be the focus of only the Agile approaches, such as scrum.

From experience, it is not motivating for a team to burn their metaphorical hand on the same familiar stove burner.  A team with recurring failures of the same type differs from how to improve morale or grow competencies.

Failures may not be fatal if these are used as opportunities to learn.  Failure is not motivating when nothing new is learned or experienced.

In this webinar Jon Quigley (LinkedIn profile) will discuss learning opportunities, things our project can do to encourage learning, and what things we do that discourage learning and growth.

The first 100 days for any leader entering office marks a major milestone. He/she is judged on the performance during that period and the opinion set during that time persists throughout his/her tenure.

As a PMO leader, you should take this standard upon yourself. This will most likely not be set as an expectation by your stakeholders, but this plan of action will be largely appreciated by them.

Online Webinar – Recorded – September 29th 2022
Activity Type: Education – Online or Digital Media 1 PDU – Free
Provider:  HBR – Harvard Business Review

One of the most consequential decisions a family business leader can make is spotting and developing the next generation of leaders.

However, most family business leaders only consider one family member as a successor and ask, “Will he or she make a great CEO?” rather than thinking of many key family members and the multiple critical potential roles they can play.

Even among leaders who want to conduct rigorous assessments of the next generation’s leadership capabilities, most don’t know what to focus on and many wait too long to ask crucial questions.

Family business expert Claudio Fernández-Aráoz (LinkedIn profile) will lead an interactive HBR webinar where he will share an effective process for developing the next generation of leadership in a family business.

He will discuss:

  • Why leaders need to embrace best practices for talent management, which inevitably requires selectively
  • Why leaders must prioritize leadership potential when choosing successors
  • The critical task of identifying high potentials and why it is never too early to start
  • Understanding how and where future leaders can develop, along which dimensions, and how to put them in the best positions to grow
  • The importance of being candid and transparent when sharing perspectives with relevant family members

Passing the torch in a family business can be complicated and challenging. Done correctly, the search and development for future leadership requires paying close attention to the capabilities, potential, and desires of family members. Ultimately, a good process can put the business in a strong position to succeed, while giving family members the chance to live fulfilling lives where they become leaders and achieve impact and purpose in their own unique ways.

Presenter : Roberta Fernandez (LinkedIn profile) is President of Consult Roberta, Inc. and a Senior Associate with the AtKisson Group.
