Project management is a useful and universal framework for thinking about getting things done. The challenge is that it is most relevant—and most easily applied—in situations where there is a practical, tangible deliverable that can be clearly identified and planned.

Not all projects fit neatly into that box, however. Many projects are intangible. Some are about change, others about knowledge work and a few are about working to shift mindset and perspective. Successfully managing in the face of novel situations with low clarity can be difficult.

The good news is that there are strategies that you can employ.

In this webinar, Mark Mullaly (LinkedIn profile) author of Researching the Value of Project Management explores how to take the essential principles of project management and apply them to just about any project, no matter how esoteric or unconventional.

Join Mark and learn practical techniques to adapt project management to virtually any situation that you might encounter. You will learn the techniques that work, where the limits lie in how to apply them, and what to do instead.

“Agile projects need to report to the PMO”
How does this statement make you feel?

Anxious? Frustrated?  Anticipating a fight? There’s likely to be resistance.

The reality is, all projects, even Agile ones, should have supports to be successful.  But at the same time, PMOs can’t remain the same and expect Agilists to just comply; PMOs also need to change and adapt.

Rubin Jen will review the types of PMOs and what benefit they bring to an organization, but then also their place in an Agile environment.  He will investigate the value they need to have for Agile projects.  And finally, he’ll provide a few examples of value-added services that can assist.

After this one-hour session, you will be able to:

  • Describe the different types of PMOs and their fit in the Agile world
  • Identify the value that PMOs must bring to be relevant
  • Consider PMO services that support Agile project success

Presenter: Rubin Jen (LinkedIn profile)is a coach, consultant, and trainer with 25+ years of experience and success in Agile, traditional project, program, and portfolio management. Rubin is also a Disciplined Agile Certified Instructor and Certified ScrumMaster and specializes in organizations transitioning to an Agile environment. Rubin is one of the top instructors in the world, independently validated by Course Conductor.

Organizations and people are innovating, adapting, and pivoting in the post-Covid economy.

Some companies are pivoting from short-term survival to long-term resilience and growth. Most consumer-facing businesses are in a difficult position: they will face the dual challenges of both recovery and reinvention — while change is still spinning around us.

The need for new propositions with ‘pivot potential’ will be vital to thriving in the post-Covid economy.

Naila Qazi (LinkedIn profile) will be introducing this interactive session and will include case studies and research backed content.

Project portfolio management (PPM), when tailored to context, improves the effectiveness of senior management decision making on selecting, prioritizing, funding, monitoring, and adjusting projects.

Such portfolio-level approaches can improve alignment with an organization’s strategy and enhance return-on-investment (ROI).

Although the construction sector is strongly project-based and represents a major segment of the global economy (13% of GDP $ 10 trillion in 2018 projected to $14 Trillion by 2025), little is known about whether and how Project Portfolio Management (PPM) can provide benefits in this important sector. The research team from Australia and the United Kingdom investigated approaches to strategic alignment and PPM through inquiring into project-based practices of organizations in the construction sector.

Shankar Sankaran (LinkedIn profile),  Catherine Killen (LinkedIn profile),  Jeff Scales (LinkedIn profile),  Hedley Smyth (LinkedIn profile), & Stewart Clegg (LinkedIn profile) discuss PPM approaches that are used in the case firms investigated, despite the fact that the terms ‘portfolio’ and ‘portfolio management’ were not always used.

Findings also show PPM approaches being tailored to suit the construction context.
