The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the coronavirus outbreak a global pandemic.

Given that action, you may be required to work at home given the continued spread of the coronavirus-19.  There is little doubt that is putting remote work to the biggest stress-test ever.

Clearly, it is taking place at unprecedented scale.  It has been in the news night after night and not likely to change anytime soon.

Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Microsoft have all been taking part, and the list continues to grow.

Based on the latest briefings and news reports, this trend will progress for weeks, if not months.

A few surveys of employees that work at home feel they are just as productive as they were when they went into the office.  Some actually feel they should work more given they do not have commute time and expense.

Learn to:

  1. Properly establish your remote work area
  2. Form ground rules of remote communications
  3. Get off on the right foot when working from home
  4. Short cut possible mistakes by learning from the presenter’s 5 years of practical experience

The Use Of An Award Winning Teaching Case Study

The case study on resolving agency issues in client-contractor relationships was the winner of the 2019 DSI PMI Instructional Case Writing Competition.

Dr Christine Unterhitzenberger (the author) will present some theoretical background on the use of case studies in teaching and then introduce the case study itself and outline its potential use in online settings.

The case study focuses on the management of relationships which has been acknowledged as a crucial element of project success.

However, agency related issues such as goal conflict, information asymmetry or opportunistic behavior can make relationship management a real challenge.

The program managers for One Global Headquarters at Merck developed their own way on how to deal with this challenge in a complex and uncertain environment. This case study will provide unique insights into their approach and motivation.

Find the full case study here.

PresenterDr Christine Unterhitzenberger (LinkedIn profile) BEng MEng MAPM AFHEA, is a senior lecturer in project management and programme leader of the Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) at Liverpool Business School, LJMU. She is responsible for the development, design and delivery of the programme. It’s a myth that agile teams cannot work effectively when distributed, but many organizations have resisted allowing teams to do so.

Now with restrictions on close physical collaboration, every team is faced with figuring it out. But working successfully in a distributed agile team is not as simple as turning on your webcam and holding virtual meetings.

The entire dynamics of teams change, as well as the process and tools needed to be successful.

Join Jeffery Payne and the authors of the newly-released book, Johanna Rothman and Mark Kilby, as they explore how to move from a chaotic distributed agile team process to one in which the team is firing on all cylinders.

You can’t do your job if you don’t know what’s going on.  So, you gather your team for a mandatory staff meeting.

Maybe they grumble and complain about how this impedes their autonomy, or maybe they gleefully prepare dog-and-pony slides in which they play the hero.

Either way, you end up sitting through a meeting where each of your team members answers the unasked question of “how’s it going” in his or her own way, and you’re left to decode what’s really happening, what problems they’re glossing over, and what results you can actually expect next week, next month, and next quarter.

If you find yourself presiding over an arms race of ever-rosier outlooks, ever-more-closely-managed presentations of current status, and ever-less-informative discussions about the real results you need your teams working on, this webinar is for you.

In it, award-winning author and repeat SMM presenter Ed Muzio will show you what you can do to your meeting, today, to get it functioning better as soon as next week.

You’ll get yourself out of the business of guessing what people mean, and get your team sharply focused on the real results that you owe your own boss.

Enjoy this example of Ed’s famous Whiteboard Videos:

Presenter:  Ed Muzio (LinkedIn profile) CEO of Group Harmonics and author of the award winning books Four Secrets to Liking Your Work and Make Work Great: Super Charge Your Team, Reinvent the Culture, and Gain Influence One Person at a Time & his latest book Iterate: Run a Fast, Flexible, Focused Management Team.  A leader in the application of analytical models to organizational effectiveness, Ed has been featured in international media and servos as an  adviser/educator to executives worldwide. Ed conducts keynotes, professional and leadership education, and executive and management coaching.
