Project management can learn a surprising amount from Charles Dickens. Our practices extend back to the time he was writing, as the industrial revolution took hold.

Some of those practices have not shaken off the mantle of that legacy. An exploration of our world through the eyes of a very different one.

In this webinar,In this webinar, Mark Mullaly (LinkedIn profile) author of Researching the Value of Project Management will explore:

  • The challenges associated with effective project management
  • Why project managers often develop a myopic and narrow view of the project they are managing
  • What a broader perspective of our projects and how we manage them might offer
  • The insights that Charles Dickens offers to project managers
  • How to manage projects in a way that brings value to stakeholders, and keeps the spirit of Christmas alive throughout the year

You probably know the statistics about engagement – 2/3 of us are not engaged (Gallup) and managers are the biggest single cause of engagement and disengagement (Gallup).

  • What can you as a project manager do to engage your teams?
  • Is it your role?
  • What resources do you have?

Join Ruth Pearce (LinkedIn profile) and discover what you can do to:

  1. Be more engaged yourself – it is hard to engage others if you are not feeling engaged.
  2. Play to the strengths of others and see them for who they really are.
  3. Build engagement in those around you – without a big budget or extravagant team-building events.

One of the reasons Santa Claus is so productive in toy making is because he spends a lot of time in the workshop with the elves listening to their challenges and success.

This concept of “going out to the field” is rooted in LEAN and Six Sigma philosophy and captures the value of a leader’s presence in the field, observation of the work where it is being done, and the teaming of people and process in the spirit of Kaizen.

This presentation will use Santa Claus and his workshop as a backdrop to better understand GEMBA walks and how it is a useful process for driving overall quality in an organization.

When the project team understands how the workplace functions, they are better able to produce quality outcomes and capabilities while providing a better transition to operations.

Santa and his helpers will look at five aspects of the Gemba Walk and discuss how it’s a vital component of a project manager’s success.

Learn:

  1. What is a Gemba Walk?
  2. How is a Gemba Walk Conducted?
  3. What are KPI’s?
  4. Why is having the elves lead the KPI review so critical to its success?
  5. Gemba and Agile; How does the Gemba Walk reduce waste and improve quality?
