Activity Type: Education – Course or Training  1 Hour  1 PDU
Provider: Fissure Corporation (Rep 1026) Branded SPL

Did you know that dancers use the same soft skills that are required to be an effective leader?

These skills include:

  • Connecting through good communications, being both an effective leader and follower
  • Maintaining keen situational awareness and adaptability
  • Building a high performance team.

Join Sandy Haydon PMP to explore how enjoying a social activity can be a fun way to experience and build leadership skills.

After retirement, Sandy decided to take a few ballroom dance lessons. One thing led to another and now she owns a dance studio. She has learned there are many personal benefits to dancing, plus skills used in dancing are like those skills used in business.

Presenter: Sandy Haydon, (LinkedIn profile) PMP, Teaching Associate of SPL and an active member of PMI MN has 40 years of experience with IBM (in Rochester, MN) in operating system development projects and working with companies providing software for IBM systems. She has been a team coach with Whitewater Coaching and Consulting, the presenter for a video learning series “Preparing for Project Management Certification”, and an instructor for PMI MN’s PMP Certification class.

When one evaluates the project management body of knowledge, processes, procedures and common practice one cannot miss that the main focus and attention are placed on the planning processes.

Most of PMI PMBOK is dedicated to planning processes, the project management process has only one step dedicated to execution and all the rest are planning steps.

As a result, it may be perceived that the key for project success is planning and that the most important skills for a project manager are planning skills.

  • Is this really the case?
  • In reality of high uncertainty is it possible that planning has a much lesser effect on performance than the common perception?
  • Are the common planning practices enabling successful execution or promoting a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure?

In this webinar Mickey Granot (LinkedIn profile), &  Sarah Mersereau (LinkedIn profile) will discuss the effects of the common planning practices, the importance of execution and how to better balance the two so that the ultimate objective of successful project completion is better realized.

The road to using artificial intelligence and big data in project management is not straightforward, and there is no need to make the full trip today.

Projects are rich in data by nature and use technical, business, schedule, cost and additional types of data on a daily basis.

However much of the data that’s already in existence is either not being used, partially used or is hard to get to. The trick is not to use all the data available, but ask the right questions and support answers with smart data.

In this session Nicki Kons BSc., MBA, MA, PMI-RMP, PMI-PMP, (LinkedIn profile) will present a simple maturity model  to help project professionals navigate their way through the different options: from projects and organizations that have very little data, through the different project environments.

Gain knowledge in:

  1. Asking the right questions.
  2. Assessing data maturity.
  3. Making incremental steps for better data use to deliver project benefits, results and deliverables.

What happens to your project schedule when top talent leaves your team?

  1. How long does it take to recruit, hire, and get back up to speed with a new team member?
  2. How much sleep will you lose figuring out how to explain these delays to unhappy stakeholders?
  3. What will you say when they ask how you could have prevented this in the first place?

The Key To Employee Retention Is Employee Engagement

Employee engagement is mission critical when high turnover rates threaten productivity and innovation. Replacing an employee costs a minimum of 20% of salary in recruiting and training.

Trendy benefits programs, casual Fridays, and other top-down engagement initiatives often miss the mark when it comes to engaging employees, because the strongest predictor of employee satisfaction is the employee-manager relationship.

In this webinar Kristin Mead (LinkedIn profile) offers managers the fundamental framework for building relationships that engage, sustain, and retain top talent.

It will empower you to create your own culture of engagement, transforming even the most disengaged employees into loyal, committed, high-performing team members.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand what engaged employees really want from their managers
  • Understand the symbiotic relationship between employee engagement and inclusion
  • Learn a 4-step strategy for engaging employees quickly, effectively, and systematically
  • Learn how to sustain engagement, by making every conversation an engagement conversation
