In this webinar Mario Landa, (LinkedIn profile) Director of MSP Services, IIL describes the meaning of the principle in the PMBOK® Guide – Seventh Edition: Value.

Value: relates to continually evaluating and adjusting project alignment to business objectives and to the intended benefits. Understanding value makes delivering project success possible, either at the end of the project or throughout the project life cycle.

You will be able to:

  • Identify value as the ultimate success indicator and driver of projects
  • Understand the key content of a business case:
    • Business need
    • Project justification
    • Business strategy
  • Describe the iterative nature of change
  • Explain the subjective nature of value
  • Recognize the difference between “deliverables” and “intended outcomes”
  • Learn how to deliver value across the project life cycle

How to Develop Others While Getting Work Done

Today’s post-pandemic business environment tells us that rapid, constant, and disruptive change is now the norm and business coaching is more important than ever.

For project managers, coaching others has evolved as an essential skill needed alongside leading project team members. But with so much to do and so little guidance, how do project managers successfully stretch and develop others while getting the work done?

Join Lisa  as she shares successful coaching tips that can be incorporated into routine interactions with project team members while ensuring the delivery of successful project results.

She will talk about how coaching is based on asking rather than telling, on challenging rather than instructing, and by holding a person accountable for results.

Lisa will identify the skills that project managers need to be effective workplace coaches and share best-practice tips that can be applied immediately with lasting results.

Guidance, Training & Certification

Vast sums of money are invested in projects, programs, and change initiatives across all sectors and industries.

Business cases or spending proposals typically act as the catalyst for change yet initiatives often fail at the first hurdle as the business case fails to convince senior management of the return on investment.

This creates a major problem for project teams as they struggle to secure funding for essential change initiatives, simply because the justification for change is insufficient to persuade those that authorize funding.

Additionally, projects and other change initiatives are at risk of failure (time, scope / cost / benefits realization) if the business case fails to accurately scope critical aspects of the initiative. This is of particular importance in the public sector where taxpayer funds are at stake.

Creating effective business cases and spending proposals is therefore critical to securing funding and management buy-in. It is important that individuals have the opportunity to develop their capabilities to create, review, and adapt effective business cases.

After this one-hour session, learners will be able to:

  • Describe the Green Book and Five Case Model, official guidance, and basis for APMG certification exams
  • Understand the 6 key areas:
    1. Overview of the Five Case Model
    2. Developing the Strategic Case
    3. Developing the Economic Case
    4. Developing the Commercial Case
    5. Developing the Financial Case
    6. Developing the Management Case
  • Learn about the APMG Better Business CasesTM training and accreditation process.
