At its core, Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a graphical representation of the steps involved in delivering a product or service, capturing both the value-added and non-value-added activities.

By mapping out every step in a process and the interaction between these steps, VSM offers a bird’s eye view, enabling project managers to identify inefficiencies, redundancies, and areas for improvement.

If you are looking for a clear understanding of how value is being added and where waste occurs in your workflow, be it in time, resources, or effort, this webinar is for you.

Presenter: NK Shrivastava (LinkedIn profile) PMP, PMI-RMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, SPC, is CEO of RefineM LLC and an experienced and certified Project Management Consultant, Risk Management Professional, and Agile Coach with over 25 years of experience in project management. NK is an experienced instructor/trainer on project management and Agile topics and specializes in project management fundamentals, risk management, and project recovery.

Activity Type: Education – Course or Training  1 Hour  1 PDU
Provider: PMTA  Project Management Training Alliance

Join  Bill Flanagan, MBA, PE, PMI-RMP, PMP in which he will explain the  huge benefits you will achieve in using a Monte Carlo Simulation to analyze your project risk.

Bill will cover the following in this webinar:

  • Basics of what a Monte Carlo Simulation is and how it is setup on a project.
  • Demonstration of how the integrated schedule-cost risk of a project compares to the deterministic values of cost and schedule.  Once seeing this you will probably never go back to developing a schedule and cost estimate with purely deterministic values again.
  • Demonstration of how the Sensitivity (Tornado) Analysis, calculated with the Monte Carlo, show us which activities in the schedule have the largest potential impact on our schedule and cost.  This allows us to focus on the biggest bang for the buck.
  • Demonstration of how the Monte Carlo shows us which non-critical activities are likely to become critical as we proceed through the schedule. This understanding is critical to staying on schedule.

Bill will wrap up the webinar by showing how cost effective the tool that runs a Monte Carlo on your schedule is.

Presenter: William (Bill) Flanagan, PMP, PMI-RMP, PE (LinkedIn profile) has been a leader of people and projects for 45+ years.  In his early career, Bill served as a US Navy Nuclear Submarine Officer followed by 26 years in the Electric Power Industry in both business management and major nuclear plant upgrade and improvement projects. In a rapidly evolving technological landscape, the ability to learn from past projects is invaluable but often underutilized.

In this presentation Pascal Brunet (LinkedIn profile) unravels a novel approach to harnessing the wealth of data on ‘Lessons Learned’ across multiple projects using Generative AI.

Pascal introduces the problem scope, emphasizing the existing gap between data collection and actionable insights and demonstrates a step-by-step methodology, starting from data consolidation using VBA scripts—developed with the help of language models—to the final import and analysis using generative AI algorithms.

The objective is to mine the ‘Lessons Learned’ data to produce actionable recommendations that can empower company employees in future projects. By bridging the divide between raw data and meaningful action, this approach positions itself as a pioneering solution in the field of project management and organizational learning.

When we design instruction, we typically hope that participants will remember what they learn and use it back on the job. It makes little sense to teach people how to analyze, make decisions, solve problems, and so forth and not have it influence performance on the job, right? Except…

The bad news is that research shows that often, what we teach doesn’t adequately influence job performance. One major reason is that we don’t use learning tactics that promote the brain processes (encoding, storage, and retrieval) needed for remembering and use.

In this session, Patti will discuss how human memory, especially encoding, storage, and retrieval, work and the implications for designing instruction.

Participants will learn what research evidence tells us about:

  • How human memory works
  • Why it’s relatively harder to remember and easier to forget
  • The instructional tactics that make remembering and use more likely

This is the first half of a two-part series on designing for remembering and use.

In Part 2, we’ll use Part 1 knowledge to analyze and use specific design tactics that improve remembering and use, based on Patti’s books.

Presenter: Patti Shank (LinkedIn profile) PhD President Learning Peaks LLC, is the author of Write and Organize for Deeper Learning: 28 evidence-based and easy-to-apply tactics that will make your instruction better for learning (Make It Learnable), Manage Memory for Deeper LearningMaking Sense of Online Learning . Patti is an internationally recognized instructional designer, researcher, and learning analyst who makes these tactics clear and actionable in her books and workshops. She served as the head of health education and training & worked as director of research for The eLearning Guild.  She has also collaborated with content experts at Adobe, Oracle, Fidelity Information Systems, The Denver Hospice, Morgan Stanley, Hunter Douglas, Kaiser Permanente, HOMER Energy, The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and California State University and other industry leaders.

What Can Children Teach Us about Project Management?

As surprising as it may seem, the art of raising children leverages many of the same skills as managing a project team.

Fostering the growth of a child’s mind requires the creation of a positive atmosphere comprised of love, trust and enablement. Similarly, in working with teams, we strive to create an atmosphere of open communication, collaboration and trust.

This webinar will highlight and examine 7 things you can learn from kids that apply to project management:

  1. Play group dynamics are a lot like team dynamics
    • no one should be left out
    • we should respect the will of the group
  2. To gain cooperation, timing is everything
    • never seek it on empty stomachs or after a long day
    • understanding what motivates others is the key to maintaining collaboration
  3. Learning moments need to be seized and capitalized on
    • capitalize on the sense of urgency for maximum effect
  4. How to combat peer pressure
    • being unique doesn’t mean you don’t fit in
  5. Working through conflict means learning to work it out
    • bullying hurts everyone, especially the bullier
  6. Value everyone’s talents and approach
    • not everyone learns the same or thinks the same
  7. Be consistent when applying support, rewards, corrections and routines
    • it will reduce anxiety and set a pace
