Fortune 500 companies are urgently adapting Agile to their work, whether building eLearning or IT solutions.  Unfortunately, just about everyone is a novice.

Agility, collaboration and learning through mistakes is NOT the way most teams are used to working.  Training professionals have the unique ability to help grow a new Agile way for people to work together to serve the customer needs.

Transitioning to an Agile philosophy, process, tools and mindset is a positive experience, but only after you let go of your Unconscious Bias to Hierarchy.

The focus changes to:

  • Satisfying the customer
  • Embracing constant change
  • Creating working ‘stuff’ instead of lots of diagrams
  • Equal voice and contribution
  • Emphasizing face to face (not email) interaction
  • Choosing simplicity over everything
  • Constantly adjusting through reflection and learning

Training professionals are often more qualified to identify and shift culture, collaborate no matter what, and focus on the hard “Soft” skills – collaboration, communication and clarity.

But traditional workshop will not be popular.  Learn how to transfer learning in small ways within the Agile process.

Learn to lead the charge by:

  • Building confidence in leading in the Agile space through in the moment learning.
  • Identifying how roles and norms are different in Agile and how they create anxiety in a hierarchical company
  • Learn from stories of others so you can use your training powers to lead your company through the rough cultural transition. Lead the people side of Agile to support your IT project success.

Presenter: Lou Russell (LinkedIn profile) is President and CEO of L+EARN and Russell Martin & Associates. Lou delivers learning experiences that are fun, flexible, fast and measurable. She believes that learning and earning go hand in hand and focuses on faculty development, retention and recruitment of students, project management, leadership and organizational learning opportunities. Lou is the author of The Accelerated Learning Fieldbook and IT Leadership Alchemy, Project Management for Trainers, Training Triage: Performance-Based Solutions Amid Chaos, Confusion, and Change, and her newest book 10 Steps to Successful Project Management. A popular speaker, Lou addresses national and international conferences such as the Career College Association, ACCET, Training 2008, Project Management Institute, Project World, LotuSphere, ASTD and the Society of Information Management (SIM).

Delivering higher-value projects in increasingly shorter timeframes sustains competitiveness.

Challenges exist at every turn; risk must be understood and mitigated, and problems recognized and solved quickly.

Adaptive reasoning and problem-solving skills have become increasingly important in project management, where decisions based on sometimes sparse, voluminous, or contradictory data must be dealt with, verified and conveyed to a diversity of team members – often under stressful, time-sensitive circumstances.

In such situations, project managers’ ability to update their mental models precisely, draw valid conclusions, and effectively deploy response through team members is critical.

This presentation discusses how advancements in adaptive reasoning and problem-solving skills resulting from the development of structured approaches to innovation are changing perceptions of project deliverables (time, quality, cost, risk management, et al).

Presenter: Dana W. Clarke, Sr. (LinkedIn profile) President/CEO of Applied Innovation Alliance LLC, specializes on the advancement and practical application of Structured Innovation and TRIZ (The Theory of Inventive Problem Solving).  Author of TRIZ: Through the Eyes of an American TRIZ Specialist & 40 Principles: TRIZ Keys to Innovation [Extended Edition]  His expertise encompasses the practical applications, consulting, facilitation and training of methodologies and business practices. As an expert in Strategic Planning, Competitive Intelligence, Business Process Innovation, Quality Function Deployment, and TRIZ. Dana became the first American to become internationally recognized as a Level 4 TRIZ Specialist by the International Association of TRIZ.

There is a lot of – often passionate – debate on and offline amongst PPM practitioners when it comes to these decisions.

Praxis Framework Founder and APM Honorary Fellow Adrian Dooley, believes that defining all forms of project delivery using artificial constraints such as project, programme, agile and waterfall is counterproductive. Ian Clarkson, PPM consultant, author & speaker at QA is not so sure.

Presenters:

Richard Pharro  LinkedIn profile)  CEO of APMG International

Adrian Dooley (LinkedIn profile), Lead Author of the Praxis Framework

Dr. Ian Clarkson (LinkedIn profile) Head of Organisational Consultancy; is an experienced consultant, columnist, trainer and speaker, making him highly respected in his field. Previously head of QA’s project management practice, Ian’s new team phelps build sustainable individual and organisation-wide capability and capacity to meet current and future business needs.
