Inflation is up, unemployment is down, the stock market is volatile, and how we work has forever changed. But one thing that remains the same is the need to show the value of what we do.

In fact, given today’s flexible work environment and uncertainty in the economy, showing the value of our work has never been more critical or necessary. The good news is that it is doable, regardless of your role or the projects for which you are responsible.

Be the first to hear from Jack and Patti Phillips, co-founders of ROI Institute, as they share the process described in their new book, Show the Value of What You Do: How to Measure and Achieve Success in Any Endeavor (Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2022) to be released on the same day as this session.

This event offers you the opportunity to learn about the six-step Show the Value process that is designed to support individuals who need to show the value of not only major projects but also their day-to-day work.

This exclusive presentation features stories describing how people use the process to demonstrate the value of their work. After the session, we hope you will use what you learn to:

  1. Change your approach to defining and achieving success while improving future results
  2. Achieve success by delivering outcomes that matter
  3. Add value to your work, your organization, and your community

Participants who attend this session will receive a copy of the presentation and job aids. To celebrate the book’s release, Jack and Patti will share details on how you can receive a free copy of Show the Value of What You Do: Measuring and Achieving Success in Any Endeavor!

Being a new project manager is a challenge. Where do you start? There is process to manage, expectations to confront, stakeholders to deal with and accountabilities that you are only beginning to appreciate.

It’s one thing to think you have the essentials of process. It is another thing to apply it well, in an ambiguous, uncertain and political environment. Being a new project manager is never easy, and trial and error is often a part of it.

In this presentation Mark Mullaly (LinkedIn profile) author of Researching the Value of Project Managemen endeavors to take some of the guesswork out of getting started.

You’ll explore the essentials of what it takes to be an effective project manager, and how to put your best foot forward on your first day in the role. He examines what you need to now about process, practices, people and politics. You’ll get experienced advice to apply in a situation where experience is what you most feel is missing.

Whether you are a new project manager, or one that has been around the block a few times, this is a presentation where you are likely to still get a wealth of value and insight.

Guidance, Training & Certification

Vast sums of money are invested in projects, programs, and change initiatives across all sectors and industries.

Business cases or spending proposals typically act as the catalyst for change yet initiatives often fail at the first hurdle as the business case fails to convince senior management of the return on investment.

This creates a major problem for project teams as they struggle to secure funding for essential change initiatives, simply because the justification for change is insufficient to persuade those that authorize funding.

Additionally, projects and other change initiatives are at risk of failure (time, scope / cost / benefits realization) if the business case fails to accurately scope critical aspects of the initiative. This is of particular importance in the public sector where taxpayer funds are at stake.

Creating effective business cases and spending proposals is therefore critical to securing funding and management buy-in. It is important that individuals have the opportunity to develop their capabilities to create, review, and adapt effective business cases.

After this one-hour session, learners will be able to:

  • Describe the Green Book and Five Case Model, official guidance, and basis for APMG certification exams
  • Understand the 6 key areas:
    1. Overview of the Five Case Model
    2. Developing the Strategic Case
    3. Developing the Economic Case
    4. Developing the Commercial Case
    5. Developing the Financial Case
    6. Developing the Management Case
  • Learn about the APMG Better Business CasesTM training and accreditation process.
