Online Webinar – Recorded  August 1st, 2019
Activity Type: Education – Online or Digital Media 1 PDU – Free
Provider: Training Magazine Network

Whether it’s an online meeting, a presentation via webinar, or live online training, engagement is the main question on everyone’s mind:

Will it be worth my time to attend, or
Will it be an opportunity to check email instead?

Online meeting technology is powerful and has made it easy to connect with people from anywhere in the world at any time, yet  professionals often still struggle with getting everyone to interact.

Interaction is the answer to successful engagement and using the features of the platform is the answer to interaction.

However, the features alone do not engage the participants. It is what you choose to do with those features that will make the difference in your next virtual training, webinar, or meeting.

During this session, you will learn what you can do to be successful in the virtual environment and avoid having everyone ask for a recording or a copy of the slides five minutes into your next virtual event.

In this session:

  • You’ll analyze the activities demonstrated and brainstorm where the techniques could be applied to your virtual training programs.
  • You’ll explore the specific challenges of managing the technology, and brainstorm solutions to the engagement problems you are likely to experience with your live online attendees when technical problems arise.

Activities are the key to your success. Through them you’ll learn to manage the technology, get attendees to actively engage, and help presenters have a great time too!

Application on the Job

  • Define virtual learner engagement to effectively design the appropriate activities.
  • Analyze activities for specific engagement techniques and feature usage to apply to your own activity design.
  • Create your own customized activities for immediate use in your virtual classroom programs.

Virtual training and webinars are unfortunately known for their technical breakdowns. Ask anyone what they dislike about learning online and the answer is usually that it’s boring, it’s not engaging, and there are too many technical problems.

The first 10 minutes of live online sessions is often spent on struggles to get everyone connected and making the audio work. Identifying someone to be your virtual producer (or someone who performs that role) will transform not only the way you run your online training, but also how you and your attendees feel about them.

Producers help every aspect of virtual training run effectively starting with the technology itself, assisting the attendees as needed, and allowing trainers and presenters to focus on the learning experience.

Attend this energetic & engaging live session and you’ll learn these plus much, much more:

  • Identify the different types of producers and when to use each depending on the virtual session being delivered
  • Determine the necessary skills to develop people (including existing virtual trainers) to be effective producers
  • Create an action plan to ensure the production of your virtual sessions are engaging every time

It’s not as though culture change was easy before the pandemic.

Using training as a lever to move complex human systems into new patterns of behavior was more or less a ninja-level skill even before the whole world went on lockdown.

Then everything changed, again and again (and again!). We went virtual in a sort of all-or-nothing, emergency shutdown way… and then we came back in a sort of catch-as-catch-can, hybridized, random sort of way.

Now we’re trying to get our footing, adding new ways of working to old ways of working in hopes of getting ahead of – or at least, catching up with – a rate of change that seems to be ever-accelerating.

But what about culture?  What of those ever-present patterns of behavior that exert constant influence on how we work, even as they invisibly limit or enhance what we can accomplish?  What can training do about that?

In this interactive webinar, award-winning author, CEO, and repeat Training Magazine presenter Ed Muzio (LinkedIn profile) teams up with Iterative Management Executive Reggie Wilson (LinkedIn profile) to show you how a firm specializing in wholesale culture change adapted training through the pandemic, and what stuck.

Explore…

  • How systematic, disciplined application of simple behavioral principles becomes culture
  • How anyone, at any level, can create real impact on the broader environment – effecting permanent change gradually and systematically
  • How to seed productive, positive culture yourself, simply by enabling your colleagues and associates to create more output and experience less stress in their own work
  • What approaches the speaker’s firm added, and what they kept, as they went from live to virtual to blended, always with the same goal of changing culture through changing behavior

Enjoy this example of Ed’s famous Whiteboard Videos:

Presenter:

Ed Muzio (LinkedIn profile) CEO of Group Harmonics and author of the award winning books Four Secrets to Liking Your Work and Make Work Great: Super Charge Your Team, Reinvent the Culture, and Gain Influence One Person at a Time & his latest book Iterate: Run a Fast, Flexible, Focused Management Team.  A leader in the application of analytical models to organizational effectiveness, Ed has been featured in international media and servos as an  adviser/educator to executives worldwide. Wondering what all the AI fuss is about? You’re not alone! The question is not if AI can help us, but how?

In this workshop you will leave equipped with the skills to leverage AI as your instructional design partner. Together we will explore AI’s capabilities and limitations, ensuring you can use different AI tools effectively.

Be prepared to get hands-on! Working side-by-side, we will put theory into practice! By using the provided cheatsheet, we will analyze learning content to develop rock-solid learning outcomes. As a bonus we will use those outcomes to design engaging activities based on Gagne’s Nine Events of Instruction.

Get ready to:

  • Examine AI’s abilities and limitations, setting the stage for its effective use in instructional design
  • Using appropriate prompt engineering, direct AI to develop learning objectives that are more action-focused and align with Bloom’s Taxonomy
  • Then practice engineering prompt formulas to receive lesson plans and activites that are more targeted and relevant, and less neutral (or generic)
  • Identify how the use of roles and personas will direct your AI sidekick to be more helpful and effective

By the end of this workshop, you’ll walk away with a practical toolkit of skills, allowing you to design with greater efficiency and welcome AI as your creative partner in the instructional design process. Ready to supercharge your learning design and have some fun?
