Schedule Risk Analysis – What is it and why is it worth doing?

From ChatGPT: Schedule risk analysis using Monte Carlo simulation enhances project planning, risk management, and decision-making by providing a more accurate understanding of schedule uncertainties and their potential impact on project outcomes.

What ChatGPT doesn’t say is that Schedule Risk Analysis (SRA) is one of the easiest and low-cost ways to reduce effort and improve profitability.

Capturing information about uncertainty and risk doesn’t have to be time-consuming and can be quickly incorporated into schedules to make more reliable forecasts, which improves opportunities for future work (more profit) and more reliable deliveries (more repeat business).

In this session John will cover the basics of capturing uncertainty and risks, applying the information to a schedule, and presenting the results.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the basis of uncertainty and risk.
  • Apply uncertainty and risks to a schedule.
  • Interpret probability distribution histograms and S-curves.
  • Use Sensitivity Analysis (Tornado) charts to find opportunities for improving outcomes.

Presenter:  John Owen (LinkedIn profile) COO of Barbecana Inc, John has over 30 years of experience with using, supporting, and developing project management software tools across multiple industries.  Before joining Barbecana John was Product Director for Scheduling and Risk tools at Deltek.  Barbecana specializes in producing software for schedule risk analysis with the aim of helping customers improve confidence in their schedules.

ChatGPT, Open AI, Language processing – these are all trendy buzzwords, but the truth is that the technology is here to stay. The good part is, you don’t have to be technical to reap the benefits of this technology, you just need to follow a few simple guidelines.

This session, led by Global Creative Director at simpleshow, Aaron Alpert (LinkedIn profile) is going to share best practices that will help you create impactful storytelling videos that will enhance your training and improve both engagement and retention – all using AI technology to do the hard work for you!

Studies have shown that people retain 65% of information shared via a story compared to only 10% of information conveyed through statistics.

Storytelling is proven to significantly improve the effectiveness of training – but people often hesitate to use it because they don’t know where to start or how to create a story. Now with the right prompts and best practices, you can easily leverage AI technology to help create a story your audience can relate to.

Join Aaron as he shares the secret formula that will help you (quickly and easily) add storytelling to your training tool box.

Attendees will:

  • Discover the benefits of using video storytelling as part of their training program
  • Learn the formula to apply while using open AI technology to get usable and impactful scripts
  • Uncover simple best practices that make using this technology easy and fast

In today’s post-pandemic world, yesterday’s L&D strategies are falling short.

Cultural changes including a remote/hybrid workplace, the new “metaverse,” and the expectation of knowledge on-demand have forced learning strategies to change. Innovations including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), microlearning, video-based practice, and machine learning (ML) are getting better results, so you need to be prepared.

If you haven’t been asked already to implement these newer strategies, expect it. The only question is, how will you adapt to this environment and work with these technologies in a practical way?

Join three heavy hitters: John Blackmon (LinkedIn profile) Chief Technology Officer, ELB  (formerly eLearning Brothers); Stephen Baer (LinkedIn profile) Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer, The Game Agency (a division of ELB Learning); Geoff Curless (LinkedIn profile) Chief Revenue Officer, Rehearsal, these speakers with different areas of expertise can share exactly how to handle these technologies and processes with grace and ease!

Most of us now work in teams, in offices without walls, for managers who prize people skills above all.

Lone geniuses are out. As project managers we all dream of tight, cohesive teams, with no drama.

But what is the downside of that?

Groupthink occurs when a group values harmony and coherence over accurate analysis and critical evaluation.

In this webinar Michael Perdunn MA, CISM, PMP  (LinkedIn profile) will explore the concept of Groupthink and its effect on team, the warning signs that Groupthink is taking hold in your team, and what a project manager can do to prevent Groupthink.

Many of us work in specialized industries. That makes us susceptible to tunnel vision, group think, and missing out on best practices from unrelated fields. Tunnel vision is where we are restricted by cognitive biases that negatively affect our decisions.

Group think is where a team’s thinking is so alike and uniform it is trapped into making wrong decisions, or fails to see solutions that a more heterogeneous group would find.

We can learn transferable skills by examining project workflows from completely different businesses. That involves hard work called Thinking!

The PM Lens is a tool that Project Managers can use to understand the Iron Triangle for their business.

This is a powerful tool to use during Project Integration.

Running successful projects is like conducting an orchestra. Symphony conductors have excellent project management and leadership skills.

In this webinar Konrad Mech (LinkedIn profile) examines 6 project management skills Conductors use, and suggests tips to incorporate them into your own skills inventory.

The Konrad uses the PM Lens to gain insight to 4 unrelated businesses:

  1.  Symphonies,
  2. Commercial construction,
  3. Military operations, and
  4. Air force fighter pilot training.
