Over the years I’ve found that many software organizations struggle with the same issues when it comes to requirements. Such troublesome topics include:

  • how to define project scope;
  • the connection between use cases and functional requirements;
  • distinguishing requirements from design; and…
  • how to use requirements management tools effectively.

Some of the questions I’m asked repeatedly don’t have simple answers that fit all situations, such as:

  • “How detailed should the requirements be?” and…
  • “Is it okay to duplicate requirements in the spec?”

– Karl Wiegers

This presentation addresses ten such “thorny issues” and tricky topics in requirements engineering. Karl will explain why each topic is important, and he will offer some practical advice about how to deal with each of these issues on your projects.

Presenters: Karl E. Wiegers (LinkedIn profile) Principal Consultant Process Impact has provided training and consulting services worldwide on many aspects of software development, management and process improvement.

Karl is the author of many books including:

Identify Your Gold Plating Today!

Join us the IIBA as they demonstrate how you can manage end-to-end traceability for your business applications, products and medical systems.

Learning Objectives:

  • They will demonstrate how you can ensure traceability compliance with federal regulations such as FDA CFR 21;
  • Learn about Performing Gap & Impact Analyses
    • Perform Gap A nalysis:Are all business requirements implemented in the system?;
    • Perform Impact Analysis:
      • If I change this artifact of the system, how wide and major are the impacts?
      • How much it will destabilize the system? How much will it cost us?
  • Learn how traceability can also help you answer question such as:
    • Why are we building a certain feature?
    • Is it really needed by stakeholders or is it just gold plating?
